Dr Dray on Sunscreens: Comfort, No White Cast, and Her 8 Winners

"One of my all-time favorite sunscreens for both face and body is this one from Bondi Sands. I recommend it all the time because it's fragrance-free. It's pretty affordable. It's deeply hydrating. It doesn't burn or sting around the eyes. It's comfortable to wear. It's comfortable to reapply. And it's also moisturizing without being greasy or heavy. It claims to offer 72 hours of hydration. And I believe that it is a really nice moisturizer. I personally like using this a lot on my legs throughout the summer months because [...] it's kind of like putting on a body moisturizer in the morning. I'm somebody who has a tendency towards dry skin anyway, so it's kind of like a two for one."

"It has niacinamide, which is great for the moisture barrier. The tint blends into the skin very well. When I am wearing this sunscreen and using it on a daily basis as my everyday moisturizer with sunscreen for day to day use, I see a noticeable difference in just the smoothness and luminosity of my skin while wearing this, so it really is cosmetically a very nice formula. Everything DRMTLGY I've ever tried has been a win, and I even had the opportunity to visit their factory where they make this and go on a tour. [...] This is one I buy over and over and over again. This most recent bottle and the past few bottles I've actually purchased on Amazon, so if you're an Amazon shopper you can get it there. It's a hybrid sunscreen, so it has zinc and octinoxate in it. It also has a tint, and the tint comes from iron oxides, which may help in offering protection from visible light that could otherwise worsen hyperpigmentation, especially for people who have medium to deep skin tones."

"Bioré has sunscreens in Japan which are very good and do contain the newly approved sunscreen ingredient. I have used many of those Bioré sunscreens in the past, including the Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence. They do have a [...] light lemon citrus fragrance, not strong or headache-inducing, but if you're allergic to fragrance you would want to avoid them. "I have always recommended UV Clear and UV Daily because they look really nice on the skin and in my opinion these are the quintessential matte formulas. There is no shine with these sunscreens. They're a lightweight lotion formula though so they're moisturizing. They don't have alcohol denaturant like many gel sunscreens that I recommend for oily skin types but in contrast to a lot of lotion cream formulas they're not shiny. [...] UV Daily on the other hand does not have niacinamide so that might help you out if you're sensitive to that ingredient."
