What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen strikes a balance between thickness and lightness without feeling greasy, absorbing quickly enough for summer wear. Dermatologists praise the broad-spectrum coverage, water resistance, and hydrating glycerin, though the formula leans toward those with oily and combination skin rather than dry types. It's a chemical filter with a solid track record for sensitivity.

"La Roche-Posay has a melting milk sunscreen that I really like. It comes in a large, voluminous bottle, so you get the value you need out of it. Really any body sunscreen is going to do great here, but this is one of my go-to options for sun protection on the body."

"Bondi Sands and La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen SPF 60 would be a really good combo actually. [...] There are so many good sunscreens out right now, it is unreal, whether it's mineral, American, European, Korean. I've probably got four or five now, pure non-tinted mineral sunscreens that blend, it's crazy, and they're non-nano zinc. I'm not sure what's changed in terms of formulation, but I'm just quite happy with how sunscreen has evolved over the last years."
Product We LOVE and HATE from La Roche-Posay | Doctorly Reviews
"One that I really love is the Melt-in Milk 60. This is good for the body and the face. What I like is that it comes in a really large bottle, for people who want to use it on the body and the face seriously, because a lot of times you get a small bottle and you're definitely not going to be using that on the body and the face. So this is more affordable, larger size, blends in really well, it's a chemical sunscreen, fragrance-free. A product that I really love."

"If you want to use chemical sunscreen but you want to completely avoid oxybenzone, I hands down love love love La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk SPF 60. It has no oxybenzone, it has no octinoxate. It uses avobenzone, homosalate is at 10%. It also has octisalate and octocrylene. It's one of the best performing body sunscreens in consumer report testing. It has elegant texture and it's widely available. This is one of my personal and family's go-to sunscreens."

"This stuff's great. It's got five different chemical filters in it. [...] They're more European filters, which is nice because it has no scent and it's very effective and efficient. I've been doing a little bit of gardening lately and I've been using this a lot, unless it's a very, very sunny day. [...] This stuff's great for the average day. It's got beta glucan and then it's also got the argireline, botox in a bottle peptide. Lovely, no scent, totally invisible, great, feels nice on your skin. Highly, highly recommend this sunscreen. It's amazing."

The Skincare Industry is Messy - Skincare Truths Influencers Aren’t Being Honest About
"Someone was posting the directions on La Roche-Posay's sunscreen, and the directions say to apply this sunscreen under your moisturizer. I should note this is a chemical sunscreen from La Roche-Posay, I believe this was in Australia. It's interesting, are you supposed to apply sunscreen over moisturizer or under moisturizer? I've always tried to make it the last step of my routine, aside from foundation, but chemical sunscreens, certain of those [...] filters may form a really nice protective cover layer on your skin, so perhaps using them under moisturizer is the best way. Although if you apply it and don't let it sink in or dry, and you really quickly apply your moisturizer right over it, I have a feeling you're going to be mixing two things and not getting the best protection. [...] For me, I'm still going to do it how I've been doing it with my sunscreen. It's been working for me."

"The La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk SPF 60 is really one of my go-tos, especially for the summer time because I love how fast absorbing and lightweight it is and the higher SPF and water resistant nature. You're getting great broadspectrum coverage along with antioxidant. It is a chemical filter, but I've never had any issues. It does have glycerin that's hydrating. I would say with this texture, I do find it more suitable for those that have oily and combination skin."

"This is my personal absolute favorite sunscreen to use during the summer time. This is such an elegant product and I love it for so many different reasons. Number one you can use it on face and body so like one-stop shop. Two it offers high SPF, so SPF 60. Normally I do recommend a little bit higher than 30 for like outdoor use. It is water resistant up to 80 minutes. It's elegant, lightweight, leaves no white cast, and it's one of those sunscreens, you know I'm kind of actually pretty picky about wearing sunscreens on my body like I really don't like ones that are sticky. I feel like most of us don't enjoy that feeling right when it's already hot and humid out, the last thing you want is feeling that sunscreen on your skin and it's sticky. And this one leaves none of that. It absorbs really quickly but yet it's hydrating and leaves no white cast. And it has a wonderful combination of chemical filters and plant derived antioxidant of what La Roche-Posay call patented into what they call the Cell Ox technology that's been shown actually in clinical studies to really boost the effects of the chemical filters, like the sunscreen filters more efficaciously, so offers more better UV protection than just regular chemical filters alone. And so I love this product. It's safe to use even on oily acne prone."
What you need to know about skin cancers | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This is just such a nice elegant fast absorbing non greasy nonsticky it literally feels like you put nothing on your skin especially on body and I'm very picky because I hate that sticky feeling when it's hot and humid outside already and having that sunscreen feeling that way on my body this one will give you none of that. It's got elegant chemical filters and it gives you high protection SPF 60 which is great for summer. It's also water resistant up to 80 minutes and La Roche-Posay has the Cellax technology that combines their filters along with the plant derived antioxidants that basically combined gives additional protection against UV radiation and that's been seen in laboratory and clinical studies. It also has vitamin E that's great as soothing the skin offers additional antioxidant benefits and dimethicone along with La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. What I love about this is number one high SPF water resistant up to 80 minutes and the fact that you can use it on your face and body so one stop shop and it literally leaves no residue on your skin so really ideal if you're looking for an elegant sunscreen to use all year round especially during the summer time when you're going to be out and about."
Tips for getting rid of body hyperpigmentation | Dermatologist Dr. Jenny Liu
"If you are looking for sunscreen, one of my personal favorites is Anthelios from La Roche-Posay, their melt-in milk SPF 60. This is a great, lovely lightweight moisturizer. Literally, this is probably my go-to. It's also water resistant for up to 80 minutes. I love this for myself for my face and body in the summertime. It's so lightweight that after you put it on you really don't feel like you put anything on. I really don't like that sticky feeling in the summertime when it's hot and humid, so this sunscreen not only will give you great protection but it feels like you're really not wearing much at all. So definitely love this one."
Drugstore SPFs
"It's really my go-to for the summer time because it's so multifunctional in the sense it's great for face and body, non-comedogenic, suitable for all skin types, even acne and oily skin. And you can use it on the whole family too. I love the fact that it is higher SPF 60 to 100, so more suitable for summertime when it's hot outside, stronger, longer UV rays as well as the water resistant nature, up to 80 minutes. Because of the formulation, I just recommend using it more in the summer because we tend to be outside more, sweating more, hitting the pool where water resistant, higher SPF tends to provide better protection. I also love that the texture, aside from the elegant nature, absorbs really quickly but yet is hydrating but not sticky. This is the sunscreen where after putting it on, it doesn't feel like you've put anything on your skin at all. Great for face and body and also great for makeup too. It is a chemical filter along with an antioxidant that La Roche-Posay has patented called Cell Ox that actually has been shown in clinical studies to provide better UV protection."
Body Sunscreens That Don’t Feel Gross | Derm’s top picks | Dr. Jenny Liu
"The first one I've talked about plenty of times is from La Roche-Posay, the Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen SPF 60. I believe they still make the 100% one too, like SPF 100, which is even better. But this is really my honest go-to when I'm outside in the summer time for face and body. Even though it's a body sunscreen, you can actually use it on your face. And that's what I do just to make it easier because it's hydrating, it's elegant, and most importantly for me for the body is it absorbs really quickly. I honestly hate wearing sunscreen on my body. I hate that sticky feeling. For me to wear sunscreen on my body, it's got to be lightweight and fast absorbing and nonsticky. And the reason why I love this is that it's exactly that. Once you put it on your face and body, it feels like there's nothing on your skin at all. And it's great because it's also water resistant up to 80 minutes. So really ideal even if you're acne prone. It's non-comedogenic. It's oil free, fragrance free, paraben free, and like I said, doesn't clog pores. So it's a great one for use on the face and body."
Dermatologist's top picks for body anti-aging products | Dr. Jenny Liu
"One that I frequently love using on myself and on my family, great for the summer, is from La Roche-Posay, the Anthelios line, their melt-in milk sunscreen that comes in SPF 60 as well as 100. This is a fast absorbing, lightweight, no white cast, not greasy sunscreen that contains a blend of chemical filters and antioxidants. This is really my go-to in the summer time for the body because in the summer it's super hot and humid, and the last thing I want is to put on a sunscreen that's going to make my skin sticky and yucky and greasy. When you put it on, give it a minute or two, it does not even feel like you put anything on your skin. The water resistant formula makes a great one if you're going to be spending more time in the sun, swimming or running or sweating. You still should reapply, but definitely it's going to be able to last on your skin for longer periods of time."

"One of my favorites is from La Roche-Posay, the Anthelios line, and actually their melt-in milk is one of my favorites. [...] I find these sunscreens are lightweight, fast absorbing, and easier to spread, whereas mineral sunscreens can be a little bit more tacky and sticky and more pasty."

"La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk is a great chemical sunscreen that is lightweight and fast absorbing, great for face and body. Once it's absorbed it does not feel like you have put anything on your skin at all. It's water resistant and contains antioxidants along with chemical sunscreen. La Roche-Posay has patented Cell-Ox technology that's been shown to actually boost the benefits of UV protection compared to just sunscreen alone. It is a great option for those seeking a good elegant sunscreen to use during the spring and summer time."

"The La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen has been a long-standing favorite. It's actually marketed for both face and body. It works really well on the face, especially if you're someone who has more oily, acne prone skin. No alcohol in it. It has panthenol, a B vitamin that's very moisturizing. It's got silica to help with kind of oiliness and shine. It also has dimethicone which helps it to be lightweight and breathable."

Sunscreens I ACTUALLY USED UP
"La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen is a summer favorite sunscreen because it is a fast dry non-greasy formula and it really does melt in. It's free of fragrance, doesn't have anything special in the ingredient list, it's a chemical sunscreen, there's no white cast. The SPF 60 is great because based on how dense people apply sunscreen, they don't apply it the way it's tested, which is pretty thick. So when you use a higher SPF you are more likely to get to like SPF 30 and above as opposed to if you rely on SPF 30 you're probably getting maybe more along the lines of SPF 15 or 10. I really like to use this in the summer months especially when I might be spending more time outdoors. It's great on the face, I really like wearing this on the face. It has like a demi matte finish to it. Water resistant 80 minutes water resistance, I like in the summer in particular when it's so humid and hot and you sweat a lot because it just helps it stay on a bit better. One thing you'll encounter with this if you put it on over say body lotion you're going to get pilling, you have to put it on completely bare skin. I have encountered peeling with it and I think it's because of the formula, but I love it and it's just as good as it was in the past."

BEST DRUGSTORE SUNSCREENS FOR THE FACE 😎 Dermatologist @DrDrayzday
"This is one of my all-time favorite chemical sunscreens for the face and body. I've been recommending it for years. It's really fast absorbing and non-greasy, which is excellent if you live somewhere tropical and humid where you get sweaty, because the formula allows for good evaporation of sweat so you don't feel overheated. It comes in SPF 100, and I really like it if you're going to be doing outdoor activities, like running, where it's difficult to reapply. I've never had any issue with it burning my eyes, which is a common issue with chemical sunscreens. They also make it as an SPF 60, and I don't appreciate any difference in how it feels or looks on the skin. There's no white cast with this."

I really like the SPF 100 because studies do show that the higher SPF tends to be better in terms of reducing sunburn, just because of the nature of how people apply sunscreen. I also like this formula a lot because it's very fast absorbing, non-greasy, it's easy to tolerate if you're going to be doing a lot of sweating, and there's no fragrance."

It's water resistant, fast absorbing, non-greasy, and has no cast, which is great since I live somewhere humid and I'm active outdoors. It does look shiny on the face, but I don't care about that. It rubs into the skin well without leaving a sticky, greasy residue, and it's free of fragrance. BODY SUNSCREENS YOU NEED TO TRY 😮 DERMATOLOGIST @DrDrayzday
"This is a long-standing favorite of mine. It's a chemical sunscreen with no cast, but unlike the Eucerin one, this has low molecular weight alcohol denaturant in it, which can be a little drying, but in sunscreens it's great because it makes for a formula that's quick dry, fast absorbing, non-greasy, and allows for evaporation of sweat. This is the one I would strongly recommend if you live in a humid climate or if you enjoy working out outside or doing yard work. It's comfortable to wear on the face, I've never had any issues with it running into my eyes or causing irritation, and it's a good option if you have oily acne prone skin. It's water resistant for eighty minutes. It is more expensive at twenty one ninety nine for three ounces, but because of the humidity here it's definitely worth it. This is a repurchase for me and I love it."

"The best body sunscreen in my opinion is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melton sunscreen milk. This can be used on the face and body, but I particularly want to draw your attention to it as a body sunscreen because you're going to be at the beach or running outside, and you need body sunscreen. This product absorbs very quickly into the skin, it has low molecular weight alcohol which makes it a fast absorbing formulation so it's not greasy, it's free of fragrance, it's water resistant so it stays in place well, and it's actually pretty moisturizing. It's a chemical sunscreen with no cast. It offers really good broad spectrum protection against those UVA and UVB rays, stays in place really well, doesn't feel greasy, doesn't make you overheat."

"I wanted to get a sunscreen I really like because of its efficacy and lightweight texture, the Anthelios Melt-in Milk sunscreen from La Roche-Posay. This is an SPF 60 sunscreen, so I don't have to worry so much about whether you're putting on enough of it, because even a thin layer of an SPF 60 is probably still getting pretty decent coverage. "This is a nice little size. I actually keep this one in my car, and when I'm driving and I'm feeling that sun exposure on my arm, [...] I use it. This sunscreen is 5 fluid ounces, goes on really well, this is chemical based I believe, really lightweight. I like this one a lot, really good. The UV Mune 400 goes after long UVA wavelengths, so it's covering broad spectrum UVA UVB, but especially the wavelengths that we worry about causing worsening hyperpigmentation. This is a really nice one. I wish the US would be able to expand their UV filters, but unfortunately we got to go to Europe and grab these. I wear it [...] every day, even [...] coming into the clinic where there's barely any windows in the dead of Seattle winter, I'm still wearing sunscreen."

The Top FIVE Must-Have La Roche-Posay Skincare Prdoucts!
"This is the Anthelios Melt-in Milk sunscreen, SPF 60. What I love is that it's water resistant and is very lightweight. So, no white cast with this. Blends in quickly. Water resistant's good because if you're going to go for a run, work out outside, do some water sports, you want to use a water resistant sunscreen. And the bottom here is 80 minute water resistant grade. So every 80 minutes you should be reapplying your sunscreen when you're outdoors. You can tell this is good for body and face and blends in very well without that white cast. So if you're skin of color and you're struggling with the mineral sunscreens and you're fine with chemical UV filters like this one, chemical UV filters has avobenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octocrylene. Check this one out if you're in Hawaii. They don't like chemical UV filters, but they've banned oxybenzone and octinoxate. They're not in this. For now, this is not banned for sale in Hawaii."
Nay
"It's the La Roche-Posay SPF 60 Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen. Now it is fragrance free and oxybenzone free so we love that, but besides that it has a bunch of irritating and sensitizing chemical UV filters that I don't love, which is why I would not recommend this sunscreen. I just think there's too many risks associated with it."
Nay
"La Roche-Posay is a terrible sunscreen. I know it's viral, but it doesn't work with everyone. Please stop using it."
Mixed
"It's popular, it's recommended by a lot of dermatologists, it's the La Roche-Posay Anthelios. It's 36 pounds for 300ml, so it's actually a really good price, but the sixth ingredient here is denatured alcohol, and so it is drying to the skin. Plus it's a chemical sunscreen, which is fine, it's just not my favorite. I tend to recommend mineral over chemical, because it doesn't enter the bloodstream like chemical does. Chemical sunscreens do go into your urine, into your breast milk, which is why we recommend if you're pregnant make sure you're wearing mineral sunscreens, and also my children, I make sure I'm putting mineral on them. But actually if you had to pick between mineral and chemical, if wearing an SPF 50 is the most important thing, so if all you can get your hands on is chemical, then wear it, because that's more important than anything else. You want to make sure you're minimizing chances of skin cancer, premature aging, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation."
Yay
"I like to finish it up with the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen SPF 60, and this is because whether or not you're going outside, or even if you just get a little bit of sunlight sitting close to windows, whatever, you need sunscreen regardless. This one is [...] very, very popular as well, but very, very good, most importantly because this does not break me out and it's invisible. It's not something that, you know, some of these sunscreens leave a white cast, and if you're not careful, if you apply sunscreen before you start doing your makeup you can actually change the color of your complexion products. This one does not do that."
Nay
"The fragrance was whoa, that's [...] a lot of scent to it, which some people like, but I'm not the biggest fan. It also has drying alcohol in it, which a lot of people like to avoid. I think in sunscreens in small quantities it's fine, but it's quite high up the ingredients list, which makes me a bit worried. The [...] first couple of uses felt great, alcohol in sunscreens helps it [...] feel more lightweight on the skin because it absorbs, it evaporates off the skin and helps it sink in quicker, and I loved it, I was like this sunscreen is everything, it's amazing. And then I was in Bermuda and on day four my skin started feeling really tight, like I [...] was wearing a mask, really dry. I thought maybe it was [...] too much sun, but I'd been really careful, [...] and by day six my skin was literally flaking and so dry. [...] I didn't put it down to the sunscreen at first, but when I changed the sunscreen it honestly disappeared. It was the accumulation of that drying alcohol constantly being reapplied, so [...] it's one that's quite nice to play in the morning, every other day, but I wouldn't be using it as a daily one personally."

"I'm also a really big fan of the La Roche Posay Melt-in Milk, this is an SPF 60 chemical sunscreen meant for face and body. I love how moisturizing this sunscreen is but it's not greasy at all and it absorbs really quickly and because it's sort of designed to be used on the face and body I just feel like it looks so good on the skin and it's one that I like to bring on vacation a lot for that reason."

"Everything that they displayed on the box or had to say about this product it's true. It does not have a fragrance. The water resistance is up to 80 minutes, but we always know that with sunscreen you always have to reapply, especially if you're going to be out all day. I loved it. I loved it. I'm excited to try the rest of my products. I love that you can open and close it from right here. It's not that you have to press it and open it, it's just like open and close. So even if you had to travel it's great to put in your suitcase. I love the packaging. I'm loving the product so far."

"It's between this one by La Roche-Posay and that one by Shiseido that I truly love for my outdoor activities."

"This is a very popular sunscreen, it's been around for several years. It's made by La Roche-Posay, SPF 60, 80 minute water resistance, so this is a great face and body sunscreen. It doesn't bother me on my face but I do avoid my eye area. It says it's been tested for sensitive skin but I do keep this away from my eyes and use something else on my eye area when I use this. But this is a great sunscreen all around for the entire family, face and body sunscreen."

"La Roche-Posay is my favorite. This one meets all the marks of my favorite sunscreen because it's nice and thin, light, doesn't leave a residue, and it smells nice. It actually does its job with protecting my skin and has good utility with a nice screw top where I'm not afraid of it exploding in my backpack. This is the one."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
