AliceintheRabbitHole, the channel run by Alice Specht, has worked through 42 eye care products and come away with strong opinions on most of them. She approved 28, gave 8 a mixed take, and skipped 6 outright. Her Guru Score for this category lands at 67%. Eight products earned her full category-winner stamp of approval.
What does AliceintheRabbitHole recommend in eye care?
Value for what you actually get is what she keeps coming back to. She gravitates toward fragrance-free formulas with a clear purpose, whether that is brightening, depuffing, or working on fine lines. Retinol combinations catch her eye when they come with supporting ingredients. The Dr. Dennis Gross Advanced Retinol Plus Ferulic Triple Correction Eye Serum is a good example: it pairs retinol with bakuchiol for extra antioxidant support. She also has a real soft spot for patches and gels that earn their place. She notes that keeping eye patches in the fridge, the way she does with the Pyunkang Yul Black Tea Time Reverse Eye Patches, can give you even more cooling and depuffing. Brightening ingredients like alpha arbutin and tranexamic acid come up again in her praise for the Bolden Awake Under Eye Patch. When a product does more than one job well, she notices.
In her words
"The Bolden Awake Under Eye Patch, oh my gosh, I forgot how much I love these. With alpha arbutin and tranexamic acid, it is a great formula for brightening under your eyes. Those are amazing, I traveled with those and it worked out so well for me."
"The one exception is the Pyunkang Yul black tea patches, those are something special. I like to put these in the refrigerator so I get even more depuffing and cooling."
"It does have a hefty price tag but at least I can tell you it lasts a very long time, it absorbs really quickly, and the brand even says you can actually use this on your eyelids, though not every product can be used there. You're getting caffeine to help with depuffing, brightening ingredients including coenzyme Q10, an alpha hydroxy acid derivative, tetrapeptide-21, all in a fragrance free formula that also highlights the bakuchiol and retinol combination, which I like because you get extra antioxidant effects from the bakuchiol combined with the gold standard retinoid in the form of retinol. There's just so much going on in this product. Really an incredible product, and I have tried products that are more expensive than this and yet have done less for me."
"This is a great product for those of you that have discoloration under your eyes. Sometimes it's just genetic and people always want skin care to fix it, but sometimes makeup is the answer, makeup can fix it. This is a great option, it's so good that when Becca closed, the product went over to Smashbox because we didn't want to lose it."
"My old favorite eye serum is the Axis-Y. I still love this, I'm just out of it now, and that's the problem. They were only ten milliliters, tiny little things, so I finished them too quickly, which is frustrating."
"This is the Peach Slices Snail Rescue Ultimate Eye Gel, and I love this system. I've had these on for longer than you've been watching and I love them. This is a lovely fragrance free formula, it looks low irritant. It is definitely snail secretion filtrate though, so not a vegan product, but very nice, I love the texture."

What has AliceintheRabbitHole skipped in eye care?
Fragrance in an eye product is the quickest way to lose her. She skipped the belif Aqua Bomb Eye Gel specifically because it is scented, and she points out that fragrance around the eye area can actually make you tear up. That is not a minor quibble. She also skipped the Patchology Flash Patch Rejuvenating Eye Gels on value grounds, not formula grounds. Her argument is that K-beauty retailers sell tub versions of the same kind of product for less money and with less single-use packaging. She cannot recommend the single-pouch format when she knows the alternative exists. Price without payoff bothers her too. She will not repurchase the Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream, and on the Dior Capture Total Eye Serum she is blunt: she noticed that reviewers kept mentioning the scent, and she said she would simply never buy a Christian Dior serum.
"I don't recommend the belif eye gel. It's a scented eye cream that will absolutely make you cry if it gets into your eyes, and I just feel like it's so underwhelming. I've been trying to get rid of this for months, and every time someone picks it up thinking it's cute, I tell them to make sure they actually like the gel inside because it's kind of light and has fragrance for whatever reason, and then they put it back."
"I received the Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream in PR. I absolutely will not repurchase this. I know the brand does have some loyalists, but I just personally do not get it."
"They put the Christian Dior Capture Totale serum in their splurges list, and I found myself looking at the reviews, it was so funny, I have never seen so many people talk about the scent of a skincare product. It must have a strong scent. I just can't imagine it, I'm never going to buy a Christian Dior serum, it's never going to happen."
"I used to buy this kind of product, the Patchology eye gels, from Ulta and Sephora, then I discovered that if you go to the K-beauty retailers you will save so much money on this product category. It's just a better value, it's better for the planet versus these single pouches of eye gels. There is just no way that I can recommend these to you when I know that those eye gels in tubs exist."
What should you take from AliceintheRabbitHole's picks?
Alice is a generous reviewer in this category, but her skips tell you exactly what she will not excuse: fragrance near the eyes, single-use formats with cheaper alternatives on the market, and luxury price tags that do not come with a real reason to believe. If a product she approved has made it onto her list of eight category winners, that is a genuine signal. She has done the work on 42 products so far, and her record here earns a Guru Score of 67%.
