AliceintheRabbitHole has genuinely reactive, dry skin, and it shapes every take they give in this category. Their sensitive-skin record sits at a Guru Score of 59%, and most products have had to earn it. They have named 11 outright winners here, and nearly all of them share the same profile: fragrance-free, soothing, and built to protect the barrier.

What does AliceintheRabbitHole recommend for sensitive skin?

The ingredient AliceintheRabbitHole trusts most is petrolatum. They call it their winning ingredient for barrier repair. They use it in slugging, where you coat skin in a thick occlusive layer to help the barrier recover, especially when it is at its worst. Panthenol is a close second as their favourite B vitamin in skincare. Their approved formulas tend to pair it with centella asiatica, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide in a fragrance-free base. Texture carries real weight in their reviews too. The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick has held the top spot in their routine for well over a year, mostly because it glides rather than tugs.

In their words

"I use Aquaphor a lot. There's nothing quite like slugging for treating my barrier issues. The holy grail here, it is Aquaphor. There's a lot of petrolatum based options out there, but I always end up with this as my holy grail because frankly I think that ingredient, petrolatum, is the winning ingredient."

"This is the Purito Wonder Relief Centella Serum, unscented, the brand new reformulation and updated formula from Purito. I never fell in love with the original, I thought it was good but it didn't really blow my mind. I love this one. I feel like it might be a little thicker than the original, and I do feel like it is even more soothing, which makes sense since they say it now has more centella asiatica even if the packaging lists less. It's a really beautiful formula featuring panthenol, centella asiatica, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid, all in a fragrance free formula."

"This Purito Mighty Bamboo Panthenol Cream just disappears into my skin, it feels incredibly hydrating, soothing and calming. Panthenol is my favorite of the B vitamins for skincare, bring on the 10% panthenol. It's a beautiful product with a beautiful ingredients list, they say it strengthens the moisture barrier to reinforce moisture retention and it certainly feels like it does."

"This is still my favorite stick sunscreen, it's been my favorite for well over a year. As somebody who already has dry skin, if I'm wearing makeup, the last thing I want is a sunscreen stick that tugs on my skin, and too many of them tug. This one has excellent glidey properties, and the shape of it is perfect for getting all around my eye area and my nose area, an ideal shape for me personally, combined with the ability to glide well and to not be too over the top in shine. All of that makes this a long running favorite for me."

"The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is such a good moisturizer. It's not the heaviest moisturizer I've ever tried, but it's a good heavier moisturizer. If you have oily skin you could like using this as a night cream, if you have dry skin you could like this during the day. It has a lot of soothing ingredients, and at $15.50 for two fluid ounces that's an amazing price point."

How many products has AliceintheRabbitHole reviewed for sensitive skin?

AliceintheRabbitHole has reviewed 93 products for sensitive skin, for a Guru Score of 59%. 55 approved, 25 mixed, and 13 skipped.

What has AliceintheRabbitHole skipped for sensitive skin?

AliceintheRabbitHole has ruled out glycolic acid for good. The First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads caused a heat reaction and weeks of barrier damage. They are careful to say the ingredient works well for many people, but not for them. They also skipped the Prequel Sun Barrier Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50, calling it too heavy and shiny to wear. That stings a little because mineral sunscreens are usually the only ones their skin can tolerate. A viral reputation is no guarantee either. The Rhode Glazing Milk Ceramide Facial Essence got a skip too, with AliceintheRabbitHole calling Rhode one of the most overhyped brands they have come across.

What should you take from AliceintheRabbitHole's picks?

AliceintheRabbitHole's sensitive-skin record is a practical guide for anyone whose skin reacts easily. Their 11 named winners lean toward affordable Korean skincare brands with clean, soothing formulas. Some of them have been in their routine for over a year. When they approve something in this category, it has usually survived their own skin's toughest tests.
