What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this as an affordable, gentle entry-point retinol suitable for sensitive skin and beginners, with a well-rounded formula that pairs retinol with niacinamide, peptides, and supporting actives. The main hesitation is price relative to the retinol strength and efficacy of individual ingredients like the vitamin C form. Overall, it's seen as a solid, tolerable option rather than a powerhouse treatment.

"I've talked about this a lot on the channel and what I like about it is that it's affordable. Costco have a great deal, a two for one deal at times. It has niacinamide in addition to its retinol complex, which is retinyl and retinol, and you have those two nice retinols put together. It's very tolerable, very gentle if you have sensitive skin. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that will help increase collagen production, but this also has peptides in it to help boost collagen production as well. So you have a peptide complex and niacinamide, which is a vitamin B3 analog that will brighten the skin, help regulate sebum production, and it also helps with repairing the skin barrier. Instead of having a niacinamide serum that's 10% that's way too high, I like to have niacinamide mixed into my skincare products. This is something you'd use at bedtime just a pea-sized amount. If you have dry skin, definitely moisturize over the retinol."

"Things with niacinamide in it would be Olay Retinol 24 Plus Peptide, which has a peptide complex. It's a great option for you if you're looking for a nice serum, and it's in a dropper bottle."

"You get the Olay Retinol 24 Plus Peptide, fragrance free, which is a good retinol, and it also has the peptides in there which are probably hydrating and moisturizing. It's got niacinamide which is good for redness, hyperpigmentation, the moisture barrier. It also has 3o ethyl ascorbic acid, that's a stable form of vitamin C. It may help cut down on oxidative stress if you've got oily skin, that may offer you some benefit in terms of reducing the oxidation of sebum, but it's not actually going to get into your skin, convert to ascorbic acid and help with collagen synthesis likely. Panthenol is very moisturizing, lactic acid smooths and exfoliates as well as hydrates. Olay is on the pricey side. I've tried the Retinol 24, it's good, but I've not tried this new version."
