What the gurus are saying

The experts who tested it found this retinol works well for smoothing fine lines over time and has a peptide blend meant to support moisture and collagen production. One guru particularly praised it for softening flakes and peeling when layered with stronger treatments like tretinoin, since the peptides help protect the skin barrier while retinol does its work. Those starting out with retinol or looking for a gentler over-the-counter option may find this a good fit.

"If you have flaky skin like you're using tretinoin and you're getting flaky and peely, try this, it's really good to soften and smooth the flakes and help them exfoliate without disrupting the skin barrier. The No7 Advanced Retinol 1.5 Complex is really good. It's a good retinol for improving wrinkles with long-term consistent use, but it also has a peptide in it that can help improve moisture content specifically. It has Matrixyl 3000, which is actually two peptides, matricides, so allegedly they're going to get in and improve collagen production. I actually really liked this when I tried it out."

"No7 Advanced Retinol 1.5 Complex is made up of 0.3 percent retinol and Matrixyl 3000, which is a peptide complex, so you're getting well-aging anti-aging benefits from both. It is equivalent to the L'Oreal Revitalift Retinol in the dropper at 0.3 percent but it has peptides as well. I like the fact that it comes in a pump and not a dropper. I think it is a very good one if you're looking for a light over-the-counter retinol."
