What they liked

  • Leaves a subtle glow once dried
  • Fragrance-free

What they flagged

  • Pricey for the bottle size
  • Leaves a tacky residue before it dries

What the gurus are saying

Mandelic acid and a brightening peptide called nanopeptide work together to visibly fade both old and new pigmentation, and the formula stays gentle enough for daily use because it includes soothing ingredients and oils that prevent the dryness and flaking many exfoliants cause. The main trade-off is the price (around £100 for 30ml) though gurus who have repurchased it multiple times suggest hunting for sales or looking for promotional offers to ease the cost. If you are new to exfoliating acids, easing in with every other day or every third day before moving to nightly use may feel more comfortable.

April Skincare & Beauty Product Empties - What I've Finished This Month
"Finished this one, the Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum. I need all the help with brightening that I can get. Tough melasma, dark spots, all that good stuff. This stuff's really nice, really effective, efficient. No fragrance in it. It is on the pricey side, but mandelic acid can be really nice for brightening up skin. This stuff lasts forever. Just applying a little bit of it. This was a repurchase, so I've repurchased this two or three times now. It is expensive, but it does do a nice job. It's got some nice brightening ingredients in there. You just apply it at night, works great."

Lion Pose 🆕 UNSPOTTED 4X Dark Spot + Hyperpigmentation AHA Serum Review, How to Use, Dupes
"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum, which is a little bit more expensive than this one. With a 10 being a perfect score, this one a 9. The issue is the price."
Best Brightening Product Favorites for Radiant Skin - Treat Dark Spots, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma
"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector, this one functions more like an exfoliant than an extra product. It functions like an exfoliant because it is an exfoliant but also with the added brightening ingredients. You can't just easily add this into your routine but it is great for brightening if you're looking to add an exfoliant in, it fits the bill for that."
Better Than The Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Resurfacing Glycolic Night Serum - Dupes & Alternatives
"I've repurchased this, this is at least my third bottle of it. So this one contains mandelic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid. So we're missing the glycolic acid, but instead of that they put mandelic acid, which is a little bit larger exfoliant molecule, so it penetrates a little less deep than glycolic acid, making it a little bit more gentle. And this one also contains a ton of brightening ingredients as well."

"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum is wonderful. It contains a lot of good brightening ingredients. It's a little pricey, but check around sometimes Allies of Skin will have a buy one get one sale too, which makes their products instantly less expensive. Mandelic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, bakuchiol, antioxidants, peptides and other brightening ingredients. This stuff is amazing. I'm on, I think, probably my fourth bottle of it. This is one where that really helped me with melasma."

Best Brightening Skincare Products of 2023 💎💡 Hyperpigmentation, Dark Spots, PIH, Melasma and More!
"I've repurchased this three times. In here we've got niacinamide, we've got mandelic acid, we've got sorbic acid and we've got bakuchi in here as well. It's really nice and it's kind of an exfoliating product and a brightening product all in one, which I really like because the mandelic acid is really nice for exfoliating, then you add in the other ingredients and it kind of is an all-in-one serum and you can really fit it into your routine pretty easily and it's got a really nice texture. The only thing I dislike about it is it tends to have like a little bit of a dried thing at the tip of the bottle, but it's a great product."
2023's Most Repurchased Skincare & Beauty Products - My Favorites of the Year
"This stuff is really great for brightening skin if you suffer from hyperpigmentation, melasma, dark spots, any of that. It's there's no fragrance in it. It's a little on the pricey side but it contains a nice amount of brightening ingredients and antioxidants as well as some exfoliants. It has mandelic, lactic, salicylic acid, bakuchi, eight brightening ingredients, seven antioxidants and peptides. I think this is probably my fifth or sixth bottle. I've been using this off and on now for a few years."
Most Often Recommended & Best Products for Dark Spots, Hyperpigmentation and Melasma
"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum, this one tends to be a little bit pricey but it's still really effective. I repurchased it three times now and it's a really nice exfoliant. It's got mandelic, lactic, salicylic acid, bakuchiol, and then it also contains several different brightening ingredients as well, so it's worth it. A little bit goes a long way and it's a nice product."
Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum for Dark Spots Review
"I found it gentle enough for daily use and it does contain some nice soothing ingredients and oils so a lot of exfoliants can kind of dry your skin or make it feel irritated or flaky, but this one contains some nice soothing ingredients to help prevent that from happening. If you're new to exfoliants I don't recommend starting out using it every single day. I'd start using it every other day, every third day, and then slowly work your way up. This is one of my favorite brightening products. It just seems to work well for new and old pigmentation issues. And then the nice thing for acne prone skin is there's no ingredients of note which make it great for acne prone or blackhead prone skin. [...] The price is a bit pricey, but in my opinion I've repurchased it multiple times. I would Google it and check out for prices because sometimes it's on sale at certain places. Last time I repurchased this it was buy one get one free at Allies. [...] But otherwise if you're just purchasing this retail it's 30 milliliters for about a hundred bucks, [...] so just do some digging and checking because I really like the buy one get one free especially when it's something else that you'd already be willing to try."
Best Brightening Products for Dark Spots, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, & PIH - How I Treat My Melasma
"This is probably my fourth bottle of it. We've got an ingredient called RX oxidal extract which is a really good brightening ingredient that I don't see in any other products, so if you've got stubborn melasma and things like hyperpigmentation, trying as many different ingredients because maybe five of them don't work for you but you find out this RX oxidal extract is the bee's knees. We've got that in there, we've got nonapeptide 1, niacinamide, sorbic acid, mandelaic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, bakuchiol and then resveratrol. It's 11% [mandelic], lactic and salicylic acid, 1% bakuchiol, eight brighteners, seven antioxidants and peptides. Bakuchiol, if you're not familiar with it, is an ingredient that works like retinol without the side effects of it. The pH is spot on. It's pricey, but if you haven't been able to try anything with a few of these ingredients it might be worth a try, adding it into your routine and seeing because I really found it beneficial."

"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector, I've been using this, I don't know how many bottles have gone through of it, but it's really helped with my melasma and hyperpigmentation. This also has mandelic lactic acid and salicylic acid which are great and also helps brighten your skin, but also has squalane in it and peptides, so this one's just a great overall anti-aging type product but great for brightening your skin."

Explaining the Top Skincare Ingredients: Glycolic Acid, Retinol, Arbutin, and More
"On the high end, the mandelic acid from Allies of Skin is a very nice serum I used to use a lot and really liked. It was one of their first sort of breakthrough products, but it's quite expensive."

"The mandelic acid brightening is actually my second favorite product from Allies of Skin because it really does work with hyperpigmentation. Yes, this comes with a high price point, but if you shop smart at the time of this video being filmed you can get two for the price of one kind of products with that mandelic acid treatment and still get 20% off."

Skincare Brands Are In Trouble - THE END FOR EXFOLIATION?
"For those of us that still crave the ultimate exfoliation, we want those quick wins, we want those next level results but we still want to do it in a skin kind way minimizing the risk of sensitivity and irritation, I have one product that just works to perfection and it's the Allies of Skin Mandelic Acid Pigment Correcting Night Serum. This is next level formulation and yes you pay a little bit more for that but it is so so worth it. Still only once or twice a week that's all you need to use this and I would say it is the very best exfoliator when it comes to fading hyperpigmentation. That's because it actually combines that 10% concentration of mandelic acid which is the key ingredient, we've also got some puchol, you got some vitamin C in here, you've got a great blend of calming and soothing ingredients and some botanical pigment correctors too. This packs a punch and I absolutely love it."

"At night it really depends if I'm prone to breaking out I will use the mandelic serum, so that's something that I love so much that keeps my skin clear."

"One of the products I've always loved from their brand is the Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum. I remember using this way back when, it's so good for exfoliating the skin, getting rid of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It has ingredients like mandelic acid, which is my personal favorite exfoliant out there, as well as lactic acid, salicylic acid, as well as bakuchiol, which is a really cool ingredient that's like a retinol alternative that's more gentle on the skin but still works to fight premature signs of aging. It's a really, really great formula and I always noticed amazing results in my own skin."
Mixed
"This pains me to say because it's actually a decent serum, but it's kind of at the bottom of my list. Although it's a decent serum, I don't think it's worth it for the price, and there's other mandelic acids that work way better. This is over a hundred bucks and I just couldn't justify the price. This has mandelic acid but it also has rose hip, salicylic acid, and niacinamide, and I found that they were just throwing so much stuff in here that the mandelic acid wasn't really able to shine or do its job properly. If you have a lot of money and you want to spend it on bougie skincare, this is definitely an option, but the other acids just kind of took away from the mandelic. I really feel like the mandelic is a little hero in here, and they tried to make it super fancy and worth a hundred dollars and it just ended up broken on the back of my skincare shelf."

"I'm using the Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum by Allies of Skin, which has 11 percent mandelic acid, it also has salicylic acid and lactic acid. It's a combination of all three of those acids, plus it has nanopeptide one, which does inhibit the production of melanin and helps with evening out your skin tone, as well as palmitoyl tripeptide 5, which has been shown to slow down the aging process so it has some anti-aging benefits as well, and bakuchiol, which is the natural alternative to retinol. Once the serum has dried off, it does leave a little bit of a tacky residue but you do get a nice glow from it. I mean I'm not hating this glow at all."

Let’s Get Intimate: Peptides | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"This is a great one to use at night, especially if you're trying to combat hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and brown spots. It has mandelic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and bakuchiol in addition to certain peptides, including a nanopeptide that is known to inhibit the production of melanin. This works synergistically with the mandelic and lactic acid as well as the bakuchiol to help give you brightening effects. If you do have sun spots, I think it's a nice one to look into. It retails for 95 dollars, but a little pump goes a long way, so 95 dollars should probably last for about three months."

"Nanopeptide one which can be found in the Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum is one of my favorite peptides that is really well known for being great at brightening. These are super well-rounded products, they have tons of other brightening ingredients in there in addition to the brightening peptide."
Yay
"The Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigment Corrector Night Serum is amazing. I am a huge fan of well formulated products that combine multiple active ingredients. This has lactic acid and mandelic acid which are both alpha hydroxy acids but they are larger molecules than glycolic acid and so they don't penetrate as deeply into the skin which makes them a lot more gentle. For me having rosacea I could not regularly use glycolic acid without having a lot of irritation, so this still gives me some benefits of exfoliation and hydrating benefits of alpha hydroxy acids without having to use something quite as intense as glycolic acid. This serum also has salicylic acid which is a beta-hydroxy acid and that helps with exfoliation as well. One other ingredient I wanted to highlight in this serum is an ingredient called bakuchiol, which has been shown to have similar clinical efficacy to topical retinol in terms of the reversal of photoaging."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Source: DermNet

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
