Hyram's Eye Care Picks: What He Loves, and What He Skips

Hyram has reviewed more than 30 eye care products, and his approval rate of 35% tells you he is choosy, but the products he does recommend are very specific about why.

Eye care is one of the trickier corners of skincare, and Hyram doesn't let anything slide. He has worked through more than 30 products in this space, and about a third earned his approval. The rest landed in mixed territory or got a skip, roughly split between the two.

What does Hyram recommend in eye care?

Almost everything Hyram approves has a formula that earns its price. He responds strongly to products built around a clear active ingredient doing real work. The 10% THD ascorbate vitamin C in Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Eye Cream is a good example: he says it visibly reduced his dark circles by the next morning. He is equally drawn to retinal, a vitamin A relative that works faster than retinol, and praised K-Secret Soul 1988 Eye Cream Retinal Liposome 4% and Fermented Bean for targeting both dark circles and early fine lines. Ingredients like niacinamide, peptides, and antioxidants come up often in his approving takes too, as with Dime Luminosity Eye Serum with Cucumber and Peptides, which he called a strong option for anyone thinking about prevention. One more thing he flags as a genuine plus: brands that remove fragrance from a formula. Mary and May did exactly that with Mary&May Tranexamic Acid + Glutathione Eye Cream, and he praised that reformulation specifically.

In his words

"This was the first eye cream I used after that disaster, and I really have been loving it. I haven't noticed any reactions and the ingredients are great, especially if you struggle with under eye darkness. I also really appreciate that they [...] reformulated it so it doesn't have fragrance anymore. I definitely think Mary & May are still underrated here and deserve more attention because all the formulas I've tried from them are amazing."
"I cannot tell you how powerful this formula is. I remember the very first time I used it. I woke up in the morning and my dark circles were literally less severe. And I was like, how is this able to work so quickly and effectively? And it really is because of the concentration of vitamin C that this has. It is an extremely powerful formula with I believe 10% THD asbate as well as feruic acid, turmeric, ginger, collagen, hyaluronic acid. It is not a formula for the weak."
"This is the Shark Cryoglow LED face mask with under eye cooling, anti-aging, and blemish repair. It retails for $350 on Amazon, which I've seen way higher prices for skin tools. I mean, just LED masks in general tend to be on like the $400, $500 price point. And given that this is both cryotherapy and red and blue light therapy, I actually think that's a pretty fair price and it has good ratings."
"SkinCeuticals has incredible formulas. The price point of this one is $116, which is not cheap. [...] I've never in my life been more tempted to buy expensive products than I have with SkinCeuticals, but they're just a little bit over the line for me to be like no, can't justify it."
"The K-Secret Soul 1988 retinal liposome eye cream has been one of my favorite eye creams to use this year. Retinal is similar to retinol but it can actually be faster acting and effective and it gives all those incredible benefits that retinol gives, so if you have dark circles or you're starting to see fine lines and premature aging on your under eye area, this is the eye cream that would be able to target it."
"The Dime Luminosity Eye Serum with Cucumber and Peptides is a great one to try out if you're wanting to take preventative measures on your under eye area to prevent against darkness, premature aging, unnecessary damage. [...] The ingredient list is loaded with a bunch of goodies like aloe, goji extract, niacinamide, squalane as well as a bunch of antioxidants and peptides which are amazing for helping to fight premature aging and strengthen the under eye area."

How many eye care products has Hyram reviewed?

Hyram has reviewed 34 eye care products, for an approval rate of 35%. 12 approved, 11 mixed, and 11 skipped.

What has Hyram skipped in eye care?

The fastest way to lose Hyram on an eye cream is fragrance. He skipped Sunday Riley Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream after it made his eyes red and irritated, and he traced it directly to the citrus extracts and fragrant components in the formula. Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream got the same treatment, with fragrance and other irritating ingredients being his stated reason for saying he would never recommend it. Price without justification is the other sticking point. He skipped Augustinus Bader Rich Eye Cream and Tatcha Silk Peony Eye Cream not because the formulas were bad, but because the cost could not be separated from what he saw as unnecessary luxury extras, parfum included. When a product trips both wires at once, pricey and fragrant, he is done.

What should you take from Hyram's picks?

Hyram's record on eye care comes down to one clear standard: the formula has to work, the price has to be honest, and fragrance has no place near the eye area. Anyone dealing with dark circles or early signs of ageing will find the products he approved well worth a look. His skips are just as useful, because they name exactly what he thinks isn't worth paying for.
