What the gurus are saying

One formulation expert praised the retinol quality and delivery system, noting that the higher price reflects a more sophisticated retinol complex and encapsulation method compared to cheaper alternatives. However, another tester found it merely adequate despite the $152 cost, finishing it out of obligation rather than enthusiasm. Those already committed to vitamin A routines may find the investment worthwhile; others may want to compare it against mid-range retinols first.

"I accidentally got their retinol skin brightener. It has encapsulated retinol and skin brighteners. I finished it because I liked it and also because it cost me $152, but I didn't love it, which for that price, I expect to love it. So it was just okay, but not good for the price."

"This retinol from ZO Skin Health is a retinol skin brightener but it's a good quality retinol and if you're going to use your A, vitamin A, C and E, maybe you want to spend a little bit more money on it. Having formulated my own skincare, there's different levels and grades of retinoids. So even retinols, there's so many different grades of it you can get, encapsulated retinol, etc. Sometimes the higher price point means that the actual complex of the retinol as well as the delivery mechanism is much better."
