"VT, the newer one with PDRN, is a lot harder on bare skin, it can feel like rubbing a solid soap bar. But it's great for oily or combo skin with dry patches, and the longer stick is perfect for the neck. Over makeup though, nope, too hard, it's wax based. If you haven't tried it out, you can still try it out."

"I love this one. It's a stick like Vaseline, but with actual active ingredients. It works great as like almost a minimalist overnight mask if you want to target certain areas and smooth areas down. So you have PDRN in here from Korean ginseng, which [...] basically means it's going to give the same kind of support and look as what PDRN is supposed to do, so elasticity smoothing of the skin. We have ceramides in here to help strengthen moisture barrier. Collagen to give you that plumpness and softness to the skin. Then sunflower seed oil and shea butter, nice light moisturizing. Nothing too suffocating. It's dewy. It's glowy. It melts like instantly on contact. Not greasy, just very soft, almost silky. [...] Great to target all different sorts of finer areas. I've used this on smile lines, under my eyes, [...] great for a little bit of extra attention on really irritated skin or dry skin."

"I love this balm because it gives us that occlusion without the heaviness. I can use this under my eyes, I could use it in the corners here and here when my skin does get really dry. And I usually have a lip balm category, but this has been my favorite lip balm. It's just you can use it everywhere. Great moisturization, hydration without the thick heaviness. Would I use this during the day? Maybe not if you're very very oily. But for days like today where it's pissing it down, it's freezing cold and the wind's against you, this is great to just rub over your face if you're popping out for a dog walk or you're going to be out in the elements."

"I can't remember when I bought this, I was like I'm never going to use this, and then I saw Sarah Pomera over on TikTok using it and her skin looks really good. After that day I use this every single night. Think slugging but more refined, it's like a refined slugging and also not thick and sticky. Listen, I'm a fan of just shoving Vaseline on my face before I go to bed, but if you want something that's not suffocating, it's packed with skin care benefits and is going to help you wake up dewy and glowy. It's not quite occlusive but it's still going to help trap in all that hydration. Something you could also use during the day as well. During the day I wouldn't put this on my oily T-zone but it goes straight on my dry cheeks because they need it. I put this everywhere, over my lips, under the eyes. So there's two ways I use this. The first way is like a slugging method, I'll do a really generous layer of this over my face and then just leave it and go to bed and that's when I can feel the product still on my skin the next day. Or I will use it as a moisturizer. It says essence but this is always the last step in my routine, so I'll glide this over my face and then I'll gently rub and tap this into my face like a moisturizer. It'll rub in so it actually penetrates the skin. So unlike slugging it's not just sat on the skin. But I love it, I love it. I've got backups of this. This is one of very few products I buy backups of because I just know one day I'm going to hit the bottom of it."
Skincare Steps I LOVE That Dermatologists HATE! & More -TIKTOK COMPILATION
"VT's PDRN Essence Stick Balm is a compact all-in-one solution that I've ended up using way more than I expected, literally on a nightly basis as the last step of my routine. It's vegan PDRN in the form of ginseng, plus collagen and ceramides, so it's skin-repairing, moisturizing and hydrating, and it promotes elasticity in a non-greasy stick. It glides over the skin giving an instant glow and healthy look without greasiness, like slugging without the thick Vaseline greasy look, and you can carry it for touch-ups on dry areas through the day. It's lightweight slugging that locks hydration in overnight without me having to wipe it off in the morning, so I wake up with dewy, glowy skin. It isn't fully occlusive though, so in the colder months I'll go back to Vaseline, but for warmer nights it's perfect."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
