What the gurus are saying

The retinol concentration here is modest (around 0.1%), which means those hoping for dramatic anti-aging results may find it gentler than transformative, though the formula earns consistent praise for nourishing and softening skin with its cocoa butter and squalane base. Dermatologists and skincare experts highlight it as an ideal choice for anyone who wants retinol benefits on delicate areas like the neck, chest, and hands but finds facial retinol too irritating or costly to use there. The creamy, non-sticky texture spreads easily and absorbs quickly, making it practical for regular use on neglected zones that often show age.

"Or even Versed, it's pretty gentle."

Best Drugstore Skincare of 2023 Picked by a Dermatologist
"This body moisturizer is equally lovely. It contains encapsulated retinol at .1%, so a good concentration, along with other ingredients like cocoa butter, squalane, vitamin E, and all around is just a nourishing creamy texture but not sticky, not heavy, and really ideal for individuals who are seeking anti-aging concerns on the chest and neck and other places like the hands but find either facial products to be too irritating or really they're too expensive and you certainly don't want to use it in these areas. This body lotion would be really good for that. In fact, that is how I used it. I put this on my neck, on my chest, on my hands at night to really target these areas of concern because they also age, if not faster, compared to our face. And so we spend all this time taking care of our face but the other parts may be neglected and that can really show your true age. So this body lotion is great to use all over or to target areas where you need to."

"The gentle retinol body lotion is fantastic. [...] If you're looking for something budget that actually is lovely and works, try this. If you want to kind of bump things up because this also has AHAs and BHAs. So, it has the 1% or 0.1% pure retinol, then 10% AHA, peptides, vitamins, and glycerin. This is kind of closer to the Iota, kind of a one and one for your retinol night. So, these are both great formulas for the body."

"I'm almost finished with and have really enjoyed the Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Body Lotion. It has the retinol, so this is kind of a one-hit wonder as far as ingredients, but I really did like the texture of this. If you're looking for a retinol only product, I really like this."

"Top retinol this year was Versed, a new find for me in 2023."

"This is the Versed Press Restart retinol body lotion, or just generally any retinoid lotion. This one I like it's 18 bucks, it's fragrance-free, just a nice body lotion with retinol. Retinol is one of the most studied anti-aging ingredients that exists, if not the most, and it helps with collagen production deep down in skin. It helps firm up skin. You don't necessarily need to apply this everywhere. If there's specific areas, I know for a lot of people their stomach tends to be an area, and then for women the arm area tends to be an issue. Or you can apply it everywhere, doesn't matter. Just be sure to start out slow and mix a good moisturizer after it to help prevent dryness and flakiness, just like you would when you start retinoids on your face. The skin cycle is typically about a month, so keep that in mind. Don't give up on something just because you're not noticing results right away. Give it a while, give it two to three months. Give it time to adjust."

"So really good option is the Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Body Lotion. You get six fluid ounces for that, and this is a pretty good deal too for Black Friday, normally twenty dollars now thirteen ninety-nine, so that's thirty percent off sitewide no code needed. Body retinol in general is going to be a good option for you. I think this is a good one."

"The Versed Retinol just came out and it's six ounces so it's bigger than the Paula's Choice option and it's less expensive and this is going to have similar effective ingredients to the Paula's Choice one except it's a lower price and a bigger size. In addition to having retinol it has jojoba oil which we really like as a body oil or skincare oil and it also has squalane which we love. It's a great option at an affordable price and I think you should be using retinol on your body and wearing sunscreen."

"The first one I've ever used was the Versed retinol body lotion, and that is really good. You can get this at Target, you can get it on Amazon. [...] The texture is really nice. So you've got this retinol and you go ahead and apply it there. If you have easy bruising, I tell my patients to apply a retinol or vitamin A cream on the forearms and the legs, it helps rebuild collagen and thicken up the skin in those areas."

"Versed and Neutrogena make a retinol body lotion which you use on your arms for crepy skin, for thickening up the skin on your arms if it's very fragile, prone to bruising. You can also apply it to your chest, your neck, don't neglect this area. This is a nice vitamin A lotion to put on, quite gentle for this very sensitive area."

"The Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Body Lotion has retinol in about the same amount as Gold Bond based on where it is on the ingredient list, probably less than one percent. It has squalane and cocoa butter instead of shea butter, and vitamin E. I'd say it's a little bit heavier and more emollient compared to some others. I do like it, but I have not repurchased it."

"The first product is the Verse retinol lotion. I've actually personally used this lotion and I love it so much. It's only nineteen ninety nine dollars, and it's better for dry skin, I'll say that right away. It has retinol, which is great for turnover, great for hyperpigmentation, firming the skin, and keeping it looking luscious, younger, and tight. The retinol in it is encapsulated, which means it stays stable until it gets deeper into the skin before it bursts open to start taking effect."
Yay
"You could purchase a dedicated body product like the Versed Press Restart Body Lotion, which uses a low concentration of retinol."

"I liked it and it's pretty reasonable, I think it's about 18 at Target now. Did I notice a massive difference with the inclusion of the retinol? I kind of didn't. I thought it was lovely. It takes a long time to rub it in, which is not a problem for me whatsoever. My skin felt soft. I thought it was hydrating. I don't know if those retinol benefits were there as much as I was hoping they would be. I thought it was fine."
Yay
"This does a really good job even on the feet, and if you have a lot of creepiness on your elbows or your knees this is another fabulous product just to treat those areas. This can really help to firm the skin with continuous use. It has kept my skin nice and comfortable and nice and moisturized. I really haven't seen too much of a difference in terms of the fine lines that I have but it really has helped with the tone of my skin. I also love that cocoa butter, the squalene and the vitamin E because these are just additional ingredients that are going to keep the skin nice and comfortable. It's a true lotion so it's not too runny but it's also not too thick either. A little bit goes a long way especially if you're just treating your neck and your chest area, and it spreads nice and absorbs quickly. It gives your skin that nice moisture feel and my sunscreen has sat nicely on top of this as well."
Yay
"I use this Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Body Lotion on the areas that I really want to get that collagen and firming benefit from."

"I use the Versed Retinol Body Cream, I use retinoids, I use caffeine creams, and that's what I do for any stretch marks or cellulite, and I really don't let it get to me the way it used to."
Yay
"Versed makes a Body Retinol that is a good option."
Mixed
"Retinols to the body can help improve the visible signs of skin aging like sunspots and may help improve the look of cellulite and stretch marks, though don't get high hopes—we're talking modest benefit. This looks moisturizing, but retinol body products tend to go on in a streaky fashion. It has encapsulated retinol which is presumably more stable and has better penetration."
Yay
"This contains 0.1 percent encapsulated retinol which for me is just the perfect concentration because I can only tolerate retinoids if it's at a low concentration. I can use this every single day without any issues and I really feel like it is making just the consistency of it is making a big difference so I can really feel that my skin is being treated on a deeper level. It's lightweight and silky when you apply it, it also absorbs really quickly and leaves the skin with a nice smooth soft finish that's not sticky or invasive at all. This is moisturizing but still feels lightweight so it's quite universally pleasing. I personally use this all over including my hands my neck and my feet and ankles where I feel like it's made quite a transformation. My feet and ankles just look so much better than they did before, they look so much smoother. So I use this every day after shower."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Retinoids

Retinoids are among the best studied ingredients in dermatology, with solid evidence for acne and for the fine lines and rough texture that come from sun exposure. Dryness and flaking in the first few weeks are common and usually settle.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
