What they liked

  • Hydrating gel-cream texture, lightweight for summer
  • Cooling ceramic applicator feels soothing
  • Works well under makeup

What they flagged

  • Ceramic applicator doesn't distribute product well

What the gurus are saying

This eye cream earns consistent praise for visible plumping and smoothness, thanks to snail mucin, caffeine, and a filler-mimicking active called volupalene working together. The texture is a stiff gel-cream that feels cooling and moisturizing without heaviness, and it plays well under makeup. One thing to know: the ceramic applicator tip feels nice and refreshing but does not pull product in efficiently, so fingers work just as well for application.

"I'm so excited I finally get to try this. I wanted to buy it in the VIB sale but it sold out, and when they restocked it sold out again, so it seems people are really liking this. I'm about to go on vacation and this is absolutely perfect to take with me."

"I have the Then I Met You Snail Mucin Eye Cream that I use throughout the entire flight. I know snail mucin isn't for everyone, but I personally am a big old fan. It just delivers incredible hydration, and I love this product."

"I'm ranking the Then I Met You Snail Mucin Eye Cream number two. I like this one, it's refreshing, hydrating, and plumping, with a gel cream like texture that feels incredibly good in the summer heat and humidity. I mostly use it in my morning routine when I want to keep things light but deeply hydrating, and the plumping gel texture helps smooth out my under eye area on days I haven't slept well. But I don't personally feel like it creates the same meaningful volume or firming that the Clarins does, and that's exactly why I'm ranking it number two and not number one."

"I love this eye cream for the plumping. The snail mucin is very healing. There are actually some really great antioxidant content, a lot of nutrients in snail mucin that are very good for healthy skin. There are some studies that suggest snail mucin may stimulate collagen, but there's also volume fill line in here which is also very good for kind of plumping the skin and giving it a smooth appearance."
My End of Winter Retinal PM Skincare Routine
"I really enjoy this eye cream. I do like to put some eye cream on before I put on any type of retinoid, just a little bit of a reverse order for your traditional skincare routine, but it's kind of nice if you get any dryness or irritation in that delicate eye area. It just kind of offers a little extra moisture and buffer if you accidentally get the product up a little bit too high. The texture is almost like a stiff medium cream gel texture with a lot of [occlusivity], a good amount of moisturization, and a lot of skin plumping, hydration. There's some volume in here, about 5 to 30% of snail mucin in here. There's some caffeine."

"I feel like snail not only has that right texture to go smooth, plump, but it also has all those beneficial ingredients in it that help protect that delicate skin. All the beneficial ingredients in there that may help to contribute to some collagen stimulation along with the other beneficial ingredients overall in the formula. It's just a really nice gentle eye cream honestly. I love the texture and it is moisturizing for having more of a gel-like feel. It is actually quite moisturizing. My skin feels very smooth to the touch, very hydrated, not dry, definitely not dehydrated. It works really well underneath makeup. [...] I remember trying this out when I first got it and I was like, I kind of like this. And then I just haven't stopped using it. I think that is sometimes one of the best indicators of something that is really a favorite for me, [...] just constantly grabbing for it because it's just so good. [...] There is a ceramic applicator on this. I don't really use it. It's quite cooling and does feel nice on the skin, but I don't think it's very good at pulling the product in. It [...] kind of just pushes the product around. I don't really love that for me, but sometimes just putting the cool applicator under my eyes in the morning does feel very refreshing."

"This uses 30% of snail mucin complex. Now, we know snail good old K beauty staple, right? It's hydrating. It's plumping, but it also has all of those great micronutrients in it that particularly good for the under eye area. Great for well-aging concerns. Very preventative. You know, it is anti-inflammatory. It's very healing. It may help contribute to collagen stimulation. But it's also very protective for the skin and like I said, very hydrating, plumping. It might address fine lines and wrinkles with long-term use. I've used lots of snail products around the eye area with pretty good success. [...] They are using azelene in this, which is a biologically active compound that comes from the chamomile plant. It's particularly good for reducing inflammation. It is actually what is contributing to the slight blue tint to this cream as well. They're using 5% of volume. I like this a lot more than I thought I was going to. I actually really enjoy this."

"This is their Snail Mucin Eye Cream. [...] First off, it's this really pretty blue color, but I love that it feels nice and soothing and cooling because of this tip that it has on there. And it also has these really great plumping ingredients. One of those ingredients is volupalene, which is one of those ingredients that you see floating around a lot online because it's supposed to mimic a filler. No topical will ever mimic something that can be injected, but it just means that it's very plumping and hydrating to the skin, and it's supposed to be a great ingredient for this. And [...] this also has caffeine in it, which I think is always an incredible ingredient for under the eyes. And it has some brightening ingredients, too. But caffeine's great because it helps to just tighten up that area underneath your eyes."

"This product was so smoothing and calming that I started using it day and night, which is unusual for me because I typically only use an eye cream in the morning. After I finished the first tube, I started the second tube. I honestly cannot say that that's ever happened with an eye cream before. I usually take a break and try something new, but going from one empty tube to the next tube is very rare. The biggest thing for me was how consistently good my under eye area looked and felt when I was using the product. It was hydrated, it felt soothed, especially during my allergy flare-ups. My under eye area looked brighter and just more refreshed. I do think the hydrating properties gave me a little subtle plumping effect and made some of those tiny little dehydrated lines look a lot better. This one just seems to be a bit different. It will remain in my routine until something bumps it out of place. I honestly don't see that coming down the pipe. I think it is actually worth its weight in gold."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Source: DermNet

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
