This is the equivalent of the strongest version of that Medik8 one, and there's nothing lower than that. If you're a regular retinoid user like myself and you want super high potency, The Ordinary offers it at a really fair price point. While this is a lot cheaper than the Medik8 one, don't forget that with Medik8 you get 30 mL and with The Ordinary you get 15 mL. So when you're comparing the price of these two, don't forget to double the price of The Ordinary to get a mL-for-mL equivalent. When you do that, it's not that much cheaper than the Medik8 one, it is cheaper but not as dramatic as when you first look at it. The amount of mL you're getting is really important here. This is in a beautiful emulsion and it's got a pump applicator."

"This is prescription grade and I was not disappointed. I've tested it with my layering alpha routine for any conflicts. I've layered it with tranexamic acid, I've layered it with lactic acid. "I think this is innovative because I haven't seen 0.2% right now on the market yet. I do think this is really innovative because it is not irritating at all and I really like how gentle it is even though it is very strong in terms of efficacy but it doesn't feel irritating on the skin and it's a nice milky formula. What I like about this is some retinal serums that I've tried don't feel hydrating, it just kind of feels very waxy sometimes, and then this one doesn't feel super waxy it feels hydrating and moisturizing at the same time. I'm really excited that one, they made it affordable, it's a high percentage retinal, it's hydrating feeling and even for me with my sensitive skin because I'm just sensitive to really high percentage retinoids, I'm not going to use it every night but I felt like I could use it once or twice a week and it really did not irritate my skin at all which is impressive because some retinoids can actually irritate my skin after one use and this one didn't do that. I've also gotten retinoid irritation before and this one doesn't do that so that's nice. My only thing is it's so tiny, but I think it's like $14 which I love that The Ordinary makes it super affordable."

"This is exceptional and I really really like this. I've been using this on my neck and my chest, and when I was testing this on my face, I found this to be quite gentle. The formulation is actually quite moisturizing as well. That said, this could cause some irritation and some dryness, and we all have different skin and react differently, so if you are brand new to this product I would start with once a week and then slowly gradually increase from there depending on how your skin does. One pump will give you a pea-sized amount and that is the amount that you would want to put on your face. It does have that bright yellow hue, which is a really good sign because this means that the formulation is at that high concentration of retinol. "Out of the three retinoids that the Ordinary has, this is the one that has performed the best on my skin because it's the strongest and the most effective. It's meant for those that are even more advanced with retinoids, so if you've been using a retinol and a retinoid for a really long time and you're ready for something stronger, this is where you can start. I wouldn't say jump right in and start using this if you're a beginner. I would start with the retinol or the granactive retinoid first and then make your way to the Retinal 0.2% Emulsion so you can eliminate irritation and give your skin time to adjust to that vitamin A. It is in a creamy serum texture which I really like, so I do feel like it's quite moisturizing. It has that bright yellow hue, which is a really good sign because that means this product is at a high concentration of retinal. With that being said, when you put this on your skin you could experience staining, so your skin will look kind of yellow orange."

A pea-sized amount is all you need to cover your entire face, though you might need a little bit extra for your neck area. I apply all of my actives onto dry skin to prevent quick absorption because when I do it this way I do see a reduction in dryness and irritation. With retinal, also known as retinaldehyde, this is stronger than a retinol. So there's retinol, retinaldehyde, and then the next highest strength is prescription tretinoin. So this product is in between retinol and retinoic acid, and so this can be a little drying and irritating for some skin types, especially if you're a beginner and you're new to a retinaldehyde. I would start with once a week, do that for maybe a week or two, and then move up to two times per week, leaving days in between, do that for a couple of weeks, and then gradually increase from there, using moisturizer on top to keep your skin well moisturized. If you can be consistent with this, whether you're using it every single night or just a couple of nights per week, you will see results because retinaldehyde is going to target fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, improving texture and tone, helping with that brighter complexion. If your acne prone, retinaldehyde can be a great acne treatment. It really is a product that does everything, and the more consistent the better."

This is more for those experienced with retinoids. If you're new to a retinoid or retinol, I would start with a retinol first and then graduate to this after, starting slow and gradually increasing depending on how your skin adjusts to it. There were times where I would wake up in the morning and my skin would be a little tight, especially around the mouth area, but it wasn't dry or flaky and my skin didn't feel uncomfortable. When I was testing this, I was bringing this down my neck and my chest because my neck can be very sensitive to active ingredients and retinoids, and I was shocked because my neck wasn't irritated, which is surprising because generally my neck gets really red and inflamed."

"It spreads really nicely, enough to cover my entire face, but when I was putting this down my neck I did have to put a little bit extra on my hand to bring that down my neck and a little bit on my chest, so you might need to apply maybe a pump and a half, two pumps. It really just depends on how much you want to apply and where you want to apply it. But with this being a 15 mil size, which I know is a bummer, I was really taken back when I saw the size of this. A 15 mil size is a great size to test out the product to see if your skin would tolerate well to it, maybe perfect for travel, but if you're using this every single day or multiple times a week we're going to go through this really quickly. Most of the products from The Ordinary are all 30 mil sizes, especially their serums, so I don't know why they came out with a 15 mil size. I hope that they come out with a larger size eventually because that would be really nice for those that would like to be very consistent without having to repurchase as often."

"It's at a pretty high strength but the coloring just isn't quite there. I would maybe question that product a little bit because having that bright yellow just means that it's at that high concentration. The Ordinary mentioned that this can stain your skin, it can stain clothing, fabric, towels, they are correct. This does stain your skin. It has that nice texture where it does spread really nicely, but the very first time that I used this I saw that initial staining. Once I applied everything to my skin and I'm looking in the mirror, I thought wow, I look really tan. It made my skin a little bit orange, it kind of gave that tan look, and I mean it looked decent, but it can stain your skin, especially if you're fair like myself. If you have deeper skin than I do perhaps you won't see the staining on your skin, but it can stain your towels and your clothing if you're not careful. When I woke up in the morning and I washed my face, that staining went away, so it wasn't a permanent thing from what I noticed on my skin. It does wash off. You also want to use this at nighttime. Make sure that you don't use this with other types of actives like a vitamin C, a glycolic or lactic acid, with another type of retinal or retinol or prescription tretinoin."

"If you want something a little bit stronger than a retinol, then I would recommend The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% Emulsion, which is an encapsulated retinal. This is one step up from retinol but one step down from tretinoin, also known as retinoic acid. This is great but not necessarily meant for beginners; this is more for experienced users. This can cause irritation and dryness, so be cautious with it."

"When I was using this I was pairing it up with everything and anything so I was using this in the same routine as tret, niacinamide, copper peptides, and on the nights that I was using some type of direct acid on my skin. I didn't experience any additional irritation, nothing. This has just been super gentle, extremely hydrating, and I feel like it pairs up nicely with everything that I have used with it. I also really like how this shines through my sunscreen and my makeup because it just gives my skin that beautiful glow and radiance. "This only has to go through one conversion once it's applied to your skin for your skin to convert the retinol to retinoic acid, which is what is going to change our skin and improve it, especially with texture and tone, fine lines, and wrinkles. It can be great for acne-prone skin as well. It's definitely going to improve fine lines and wrinkles and it's going to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, especially if you can be consistent with it. When I first started off with retinol, I only started off with once or twice a week, and I did that for several weeks until my skin adjusted, and then I gradually increased my usage from there. I would definitely recommend doing that with this also. Even with an over-the-counter retinol, especially if you're a beginner, we all react differently to retinoids, so start slow and gradually increase, but the more consistent you can be the better. You want to make sure that you use a pea-sized amount. You don't need any more product than that, and you want to use these at night time, especially because retinol can be light sensitive. If you're using this in the morning and you go outside, that sunlight can actually degrade the retinol, which means it's not going to be as effective on the skin. If you can use your retinoid at least twice a week and you can be consistent with that, then that will help to improve your skin."

"I really love this for the face. If you can't get your hands on prescription tretinoin, this is amazing for the face because remember this is one step down from tretinoin. This can be very irritating for those that are beginners. This is truly better for those that are more experienced users with retinoids but it can cause a little dryness, a little bit of irritation. I personally have never seen it because my skin is just so used to using tretinoin, which is stronger, that I feel like this is very gentle. One pump will give you a true pea-sized amount. This is very yellow in color, which is a good thing because that means that this is at a high concentration of retinol. The yellowness just gives that initial staining but it doesn't actually stain your skin, so tomorrow morning once I rinse off my skin that yellowness is no longer there. It's just that initial application, so make sure that your skin is dry before you go to sleep for the night or wear colored clothes because it could possibly stain."

"This is their strongest retinoid with everything that they have in their retinoid collection. This is the strongest because this is a retinaldehyde. If you're using a retinol right now and you're really not seeing a difference and you would like to increase the strength of it then I would say go with this one. The 0.2% is the only strength that they have currently right now. It can cause some dryness and irritation for some people. If you're new to the retinoid world and you're a beginner, I wouldn't say start with this. This is really for experienced users. But if you really wanted to start with this, then start with one night per week and then gradually increase your usage depending on how your skin tolerates to it. This is best used at night time only. And this can be used with growth factors."

If you use this in your morning routine and you're going outside and your face is being exposed to natural daylight, then the light is going to degrade the retinal, which means it's not going to be effective on your skin. It's very light sensitive, so keep your retinoids for your nighttime routine. It's also important to know not to pair your retinoid with other types of active ingredients."

"I don't necessarily use this 7 days a week, I might use it 5 days a week, maybe 6, maybe 4, it just depends on how my skin feels at that time and what I feel like using. But this is really, really nice. I have really achieved that brighter complexion with this. This product makes my skin super soft, and my neck can actually tolerate this as well. I've been using this pretty much every night on my neck area and I absolutely love it. I feel like I'm already seeing results with my neck where everything just looks more soft and smooth, and some of the fine lines that I have on my neck don't look as noticeable. If you're using a retinol, then your skin has to go through two conversions."

"It did make it brighter, it did help with texture, it did help to reduce oil. This is very hydrating, very gentle. It's not sticky or tacky. I was basically using this with everything so I did pair this up with other actives at night time, copper peptides, regular peptides. I did use this with vitamin C.
