    What the gurus are saying

This lightweight, oil-free serum delivers hydration for oily skin without triggering shine, earning praise for its weightless texture and seamless layering under sunscreen. The formula features squalane, oat, ceramides, and amino acids, ingredients that hold water and support skin barrier health. That makes it especially valuable for anyone with oily-but-dehydrated skin or a compromised barrier seeking hydration that won't weigh them down.

"Summer Fridays also came out with a new product called Dream Oasis Deep Hydration Serum and this is kind of like what I wanted the omega water cream to be. I'm still going to be testing this out, but this beautiful little bottle reminds me of the Malibu coastline. The entire Summer Fridays line is pretty fantastic. This serum is almost like the result that you ask for from a moisturizer but in serum form. You can really easily layer this under a sunscreen. You could just wear this on your own if you wanted to, and it really is a dream oasis for the skin. This has squalane, oat, ceramides, and amino acids, which can hold onto water and be nourishing to the skin and might help with cellular signaling to stimulate other changes in the skin potentially from rebuilding a skin barrier to helping with collagen or elastin production by stimulating fibroblasts. It really does deliver on its promise of being a weightless jelly serum that is oil-free. If you don't want the oils but you want hydration, this is an oily skin's best friend. If you're oily but dehydrated, this is fantastic. I think it's fragrance-free. This is fantastic and if you have a damaged skin barrier or you're looking for hydration that doesn't make you overly oily, Summer Fridays is coming through. I bought into the hype with this one and I am so far not disappointed."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

    Source: DermNet

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

    Source: DermNet

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
