What they liked

  • Luminous finish
  • Doesn't settle into wrinkles
  • Easy to apply with fingers

What they flagged

  • Fair Light shade too peachy

What the gurus are saying

This luminous tinted moisturizer won't settle into fine lines all day long, making it especially friendly to dry and mature skin. It delivers medium coverage that applies easily with just your fingers and stays put throughout the day. Some found their shade ran slightly warm, so those looking for better matching may want to try a lighter or more neutral tone.

"The Smashbox Halo Tinted Moisturizer, I like this one as well. This is more of a true tinted moisturizer in contrast to the About-Face Foundation, it's thicker and lower coverage, which I think makes it more friendly to dry skin types, maybe mature skin too. I do like this product, I do wish I had a better shade match though, mine is fair light and it's just a little bit peachy for me, but I can pull it off if I wear it light."

21 Days of Beauty Week 3: VERY Mixed Thoughts
"We have a product that I do love, the Smashbox Halo Tinted Moisturizer. The very first review on the Ulta website says it's too greasy, it is not greasy at all in my opinion, but I have very dry skin, and yes, I love this, so that may be something to know. I also really like Smashbox, they typically have had a great shade range."

"The Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow All-In-One Tinted Moisturizer [...] went viral on TikTok a while back and it's so beautiful. It's a really nice luminous tinted moisturizer. [...] You can kind of see it on my face, it's really beautiful. [...] I wear the shade Fair Light. It's just a really good everyday product."

"I reviewed the Smashbox Halo Tinted Moisturizer in my trying all new makeup video and it was one of the hero products of that video. It goes on the skin really nicely just with your fingers, so if you don't like to fuss a lot with your makeup it's really easy to apply and it looks really nice. It gives pretty good coverage, actually more like a medium coverage, not your standard tinted moisturizer. But the greatest thing about it was that it didn't settle into any wrinkles all day long and it stayed put pretty well. The only place that it wore off was right on the end of my nose, but everywhere else it stayed in place really really well."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
