What the gurus are saying

Thoroughly cleanses without stripping skin or compromising the barrier, which is exactly what reviewers keep returning to. They praise its genuinely gentle feel and impressive foaming action, making it particularly good for anyone worried their cleanser might be too harsh. One small note: a trace of residue may linger, though using a silicone sponge during cleansing should help address it.

"It's a very light foaming cleanser. A little bit goes a long way. It's definitely super gentle. My skin feels hydrated."

"I'm using one that's sent to me from SkinFix and I really been loving it. This is a pH balance cleanser that really helps to remove buildup, debris, sunscreen, light makeup without disrupting your skin barrier. You can use it in the evening as your one-stop shop only cleanser or it can be a great second step of double cleansing depending on what your needs are. I do find that this doesn't foam a lot, it kind of has a light foam but really does a good job at just removing the buildup from the night before. Afterwards my skin doesn't feel stripped, it doesn't feel dry or tight. It does contain SkinFix's patented L3 complex, which is a biomimetic compound that delivers intense repair to the moisture barrier that you essentially strip from cleansing. I think that's why you don't feel like your skin feels stripped because of the ingredients. And ectoin, which basically binds to lipids to keep them in place and protected, and then chamomile that's calming and soothing. This is a nice one, really great for all around all skin types, but highly recommend if you have sensitive or dry skin."

"This one's really cool. It thoroughly cleanses while protecting the skin barrier. It's lightweight gel texture removes dirt and oil without any irritation. It's perfect for sensitive skin, good for acne prone skin also post-retinol recovery. The key ingredients here are ceramides, the patented BL3 complex, ectoine, chamomile and moisturizers. This one goes on really good after your cleansing balm. So you can pair those two perfectly together."

"This is the SkinFix Barrier+ Ceramide and Ectoin gentle gel cleanser. It's amazing, it foams up amazing and cleans the skin so so good. It is a gel cleanser, and sometimes gel cleansers can be drying, but this one's not. It's great for all skin types. My husband uses it too and he does have eczema on his face, so this is great even for sensitive skin. I will definitely repurchase this."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.
