What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise the ingredient list and gentle formula, especially for dry or dehydrated skin and barrier repair. The main split is practical: most love it as a nighttime moisturizer, but one reviewer noted pilling issues when layered under morning sunscreen. At the $30 price point, it's seen as solid value, though several stress it's a supporting product, not a complete antiaging solution on its own.

"The barrier restore cream, a moisturizer that focuses on hydration and strengthening the skin barrier. It has niacinamide, shea butter, and of course peptides. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was a really decent moisturizer."

"The barrier cream was good. Not necessarily groundbreaking. I remember it was a nice moisturizer that focused on hydration, strengthening the skin barrier, including ingredients like niacinamide, shea butter, and peptides. Of course, nothing groundbreaking, but also maybe that was good because it meant that everyone could use these and buy them."

"When I was able to look at the ingredient list, I was like, 'Oh my god, incredible ingredient list' featuring ceramides, mud mood butter, which is actually like the ingredient that I use in my own moisturizer with Selfless by Hyram, ginger root extract, polyglutamic acid, like just across the board, great ingredient list. I've really enjoyed using that moisturizer. I've always been a fan of that one since I first tried it. I feel like this is a great product to start with, especially if you're someone who has really dry or dehydrated skin. I would say this kind of provides a similar experience to what you would get out of slugging."

"This contains five or six peptides at a decent concentration, with a total peptide concentration of about 2%. For $30, I don't think this is a bad product. If you're looking for an antiaging moisturizer, this is a really, really lightweight formula. It's super lightweight and gives you a really good effect as an antiaging moisturizer. At $30, it's good. This is a pretty good moisturizer at that price point. But this is not your total antiaging solution. You will still need your regular peptide serum, you will still need your retinol. This is a decent product you can use if you get it at the $30 price. Otherwise, don't waste your money."

"The Rhode Barrier Restore Cream, why, because at least here they kind of meet their promise. If you look at this cream, Rhode says it's a rich but lightweight cream moisturizer to comfort and soothe the skin, restore the skin barrier because that is critical. The marketing copy says 'antioxidant peptide powerhouse,' which is not entirely accurate, but it will make your skin smoother and softer over time, which is true. The key ingredients include shea butter, which hydrates and moisturizes, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D, and squalane. They've given you actually a few peptides: oligo peptide 78, octa peptide 24, and hex peptide 27, tetra peptide 2. Basically you're getting five or six peptides at a decent concentration."

"This is a Rhode Barrier Repair Cream. I'm fragrance-free and beautiful, and if you've got the budget, it's a great barrier repair product. It's unfragranced, gentle, absolutely no essential oil skincare ever."

"This is the barrier restore cream and it's a great little sizer so if you're thinking about traveling and you're wondering what to pack that's a perfect little barrier repair cream for the entire entire family. I love the packaging I love the idea that their barrier repair and their peptide base."

"The Rhode Barrier Restore Cream has shea butter which is nice for reducing water loss, it has squalane and emollient that can soften and smooth rough dry skin texture, slip between shedding corneocytes to help them desquamate more efficiently. And this has sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid which along with the peptides can help improve the moisture content of the top layers of the skin and ultimately that does have a wrinkle smoothing effect. In my opinion the Barrier Restore Cream is a very nice product, but I have to tell you I did run into issues if I try to use this as my morning facial moisturizer prior to applying sunscreen. If I added this and then sunscreen I would get pilling, which is not surprising when it comes to your sunscreen you really don't want to be layering it on over a ton of stuff because it can have issues setting up properly. I would reserve the Barrier Restore Cream for your nighttime skincare routine as a PM moisturizer. It is actually quite good, it's not heavy, it's not greasy, and if you wanted to do the whole three steps, the three layer on top of one another quite nicely."

"Rhode Barrier Restore Cream is going to protect her barrier in case she has any dry patches or anything like that and seal all that in just for that perfect makeup application. I always like to do a more rich cream when I'm going to get my makeup done. You really only need a tiny bit in the areas where you feel like you get a little bit more dry under your makeup, and for me that's around the nose and under the eyes. My eyes are really sensitive, especially when I sleep they tear up and they get irritated, so I feel like this actually really helps me a lot. I like this."
