What the gurus are saying

This balm layers exceptionally well and absorbs without stickiness or greasiness, making it a flexible option for both oily and dry skin types. The ceramide blend and peptide content earn praise for barrier support, though the peptide profile is modest (a basic duo rather than a comprehensive anti-aging complex), so those relying on it solely for anti-aging may be left wanting. A slight odor from the base bothers some, and it works best as part of a fuller routine rather than as a standalone anti-aging treatment.

"Overall, I have enjoyed this product. It's very pleasant, lightweight, hydrating and moisturizing. It plays well under sunscreen and layers well under other things. It's a fragrance-free liquid moisturizer, essentially a milky toner marketed as a fluid moisturizer, formulated with glycerin, squalane, sodium PCA and amino acids, a ceramide blend, rice protein and peptides, which together support hydration and the skin barrier. It's basically suitable for any skin type. That said, I don't think it's doing anything particularly revolutionary above and beyond any other lightweight milky toner. It's well formulated and I would happily repurchase it and use it again in the future, and I get why it's so popular, but personally I would not put it above Haru Haru Wonder Black Rice Probiotic Barrier Essence or the Cellamax dual barrier cream. There's nothing wrong with it, it's a good one, but it's not a must-have, a holy grail. Prequel did a good job with this."

"They have hexaeptide 11 and a good blend of ceramide complex. So you're not only getting the skin barrier repairing story, but you're also getting a much more skin firming story. So if you have extremely dry skin looking for peptides and ceramides, I think this is the one. And also, you can't really beat the price for this. The only thing that really bothers me though is a slight odor that I would have to say from the ingredients in the base. I don't know what that is, but it's not like the most pleasant smell on this planet, but that's the only thing. But other than that, beautiful experience. Really, really soothing and skin conditioning. And also very substantially heavier in terms of the body. So you would love it if especially if you're trying to layer multiple different coats of a liquid moisturizer."

"We've got a ton of ceramides in here, rice protein, one, two, three, four, five ceramides. So to call it ceramides and peptides is a little bit overpromising. It's got basically a duo peptide in there, which there's nothing wrong with. But for real anti-aging, I think this is going to leave a little bit to be desired. But as long as you use it in a routine with other good anti-aging things, I think it'll fit in well. But if you're relying on this solely for anti-aging, I think you might be left a little disappointed. There's a lot of great peptides out there and just using picking one basic duo, I don't love that. But that being said, it's really nice. If you have oily skin, it's a nice way to get some ceramides and barrier repairing ingredients in there without the thickness or heaviness of a moisturizer that can end up greasy. It feels really nice, not sticky at all. A lot of moisturizers or fluid moisturizers can be kind of sticky. This does not leave your skin feeling sticky at all. Feels really nice. Nice base moisturizer. I think in the summer on the hotter, more humid days, I probably could get away with just using this underneath my sunscreen and going with it. Rice protein, the peptide duo, vitamin E, squalane, which is a good antioxidant."

"This is a very flexible product. It could be used as a serum or it can be used as a really light emulsion moisturizer as a final product in your skincare routine. Because there's two different uses for this, this could be a great product for folks who have combo skin that leans dry or if you have a dry skin type, this would be a great serum option for you. If you have a little bit more of an oily skin type, this could be a good moisturizer option for you because it's not like a heavy thick cream. It's not something that seals your skin off or really has any occlusivity to it. So this could be a really nice fluidy moisturizer option for you without all that heaviness and that seal it off quality. This is a really interesting mixture of ingredients here but it really is focused on your skin barrier. Half and half actually refers to half peptides and half ceramides. They're using metatricxel 3000, which can help to stimulate collagen. It has some really great anti-aging benefits, but it's also really helpful for just helping your skin retain hydration."

"I started using this to help strengthen my skin barrier. I could really feel not only relief like pretty much as soon as I started using this, like my skin was just like ah drinking it in. But I also felt like longterm it was helping to strengthen my barrier. In practice, this actually functions really well to help strengthen up the skin barrier, but just in a little bit of a different way. Not a really heavy, dense, rich way, but it still offers a lot of lightweight moisture to the skin."

"I've seen so many creators on TikTok, on YouTube using the Half and Half Fluid Moisturizer under makeup, especially if they have oily skin. And I think that's because this is almost like if a milky toner got a plushy boost. So you get this beautiful amount of hydration, but it's not heavy on the skin. It's not going to break up the makeup, and it just adds the hydration that even oily skin needs."

"It is so good for when you get out of the shower if you want to put on something quick to moisturize but you're not ready for a whole lotion routine. Once it's absorbed then you can go in with any richer moisturizers if that's desired. I find that this layers particularly beautifully under the Skin Utility Balm and that's one of my favorite ways to use it in the evening. When this absorbs into your skin it's not shiny or greasy, it is a true skin-like finish. I love this product so much because when I use it my skin is instantly softer, smoother and more supple. Half and Half Fluid Moisturizer is fragrance-free, allergy tested and suitable for all skin types including those with sensitive skin or eczema prone skin."
Dark Spots GONE: My Ultimate Routine for Hyperpigmentation & Radiant Glowing Skin | Dr. Sam Ellis
"The moisturizer I use by far and away the most these days is my Prequel Half and Half Fluid Moisturizer. I'm almost done with this bottle. It is such a good lightweight moisturizer. I just had a patient in yesterday who works for a very well-known skincare brand and she's like, I work in this space and I cannot get enough of this. And I agree, it's a fantastic lightweight moisturizer. If you want to be able to layer lots of products but you still need a moisturizer, this allows you to get that extra boost of moisture without feeling heavy. It gives a little boost to your skin, but doesn't mess with all the other products you've layered underneath it and still sits well under makeup and sunscreen."
