What they liked

  • Works under makeup without pilling
  • Hydrating enough on its own in most seasons

What they flagged

  • May need a heavier moisturiser in winter
  • Only three peptides at a premium price point

What the gurus are saying

The peptide blend earns consistent praise for delivering visible plumping and hydration that reads immediately on the skin, with a lightweight gel-cream texture that layers well under other products and suits most skin types. That said, some gurus wish the peptide roster were deeper or more specialized for the price, and a few note it may not provide quite enough richness for very dry winter skin on its own. The consensus keeps it in the everyday camp: morning and evening use is fine, though you'll need a separate sunscreen in the morning.

"It is very thick. A little bit does not go a long way, but it feels really hydrating. I like that. No scent to it. It's got some good peptides and good ingredients in there. It's thick and it's hydrating, but it's almost a little bit mattifying."

Skincare & Beauty Product Empties - What I've Finished in February
"This one was really nice. I would purchase it again. It's got a nice lotion texture to it. I found I like this one more in the fall. For winter, it's okay, but on certain winter days, I need a little bit more hydration, a little bit more thickness. But this one's light and kind of lotion, which makes it really nice. You can layer it underneath a thicker cream or something like that. But spring and fall, this one's really nice. So definitely would repurchase that again."

"They've added in a couple peptides. None of the peptides that are in here are super notable, but they're not bad ones. We've got oogo peptide one which is great. I would have loved to see Snap 8, I would have loved to see Argan, I would have loved to see copper peptides, but they really focused on three peptides which are all good peptides. I would have loved to see a handful more in this, especially when they're charged it is kind of expensive. The texture of this one feels really nice, so you could definitely use this morning or evening routine. If you're going to use it in your morning routine, finish up with sunscreen. It feels really nice, really silky. Aesthetically it's very aesthetically pleasing to apply. It feels really nice and silky and a little bit went a pretty long way."

"It's a really nice moisturizer that's pretty hydrating. It's on the gel side. Great for oily, normal skin. It mixes well with bronzer drops and things like that. No fragrance in it."

"Paula's Choice peptide moisturizer is really lovely too because it does have good collagen supporting ingredients in the formulation, though I don't remember if it has niacinamide or not."

"One of my favorites that uses is the [Paula's Choice] Peptide Moisturizer. It contains the Matrixyl 3000 complex, which includes two peptides working together where one signals collagen production and the other dials down the inflammatory response that destroys it. For fine lines and surface texture, this is a good option where you can find it."

"Paula's Choice has for $49 her Pro Collagen Peptide Cream, which is relatively lightweight but still cushiony in texture. That is nice if you're looking for something that is going to help to promote collagen production. And it has those pro collagen peptides in them. It doesn't have full collagen because full collagen alone is just a great hydrator. It's never going to promote collagen production."

"Paula's Choice has a Pro-Collagen Peptide cream loaded with peptides. If you can't tolerate retinol, use this on your face to help promote collagen production. It's a lightweight cushiony gel that breaks easily so it won't overwhelm your skin."

"I've been loving from Paula's Choice their Pro Collagen Peptide Plumping Moisturizer. This has three peptides that really help our skin attract and hold on to hydration and moisture. It's all about the skin plumping, and I have to say this is really, really effective at that. I love a Paula's Choice moisturizer, but I feel like they're always surprising me in the best possible way with the different textures. This is like a beautiful gel balm that is so intensely hydrating. You almost feel your skin immediately plump out when you apply it. This also leaves a really, really healthy glow and it looks great under makeup as well."

"Their new campaign for their Pro collagen peptide Plumping moisturizer is a good example of how the brand are Changing"

"This is designed for all skin types and this is great for those that are looking to incorporate something for signs of aging or to prevent early signs of aging. This is a great moisturizer that will help to stimulate new collagen improving skin elasticity and just rejuvenating the skin. This has a lightweight gel cream texture that will complement all skin types so even if you're at your oiliest or at your driest I have combination skin and generally during the winter I do like to resort to moisturizers that are thicker that are more rich that are more satisfying to use when your skin is in that discomfort but believe it or not this has actually been enough on its own, obviously paired up with serums and facial mist to keep my skin nice and comfortable. I've really enjoyed this more so in my morning routine because I love how this plumps up my skin and gives that youthful bounce. This formulation contains three pro collagen peptides there's acetyl hexapeptide 5, there's oligopeptide 1 and tripeptide 1 so these three peptides combined will help to improve skin texture tone stimulating new collagen improving skin firmness tightening the skin softening fine lines and wrinkles."

"I'm going to use another Paula's Choice, this is the Pro Collagen Peptide Plumping Moisturizer, really nice kind of lightweight texture. I'll put that on, bring it right through my neck, and I do the same thing that I do in the morning and just give a little massage."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
