What the gurus are saying

The metal cooling applicator and lasting hydration earn consistent praise, with gurus finding it keeps lips plump and supple for hours. Hyaluronic acid spheres, peptides, and squalane work together to repair dry lips and support volume, and it sits well under other products. The main trade-off is the price tag at around thirty dollars for a small tube and the clear-only finish, though one guru wishes it came in color. Apply morning and night for best results maintaining lip fullness.

"The [Paula's Choice] hyaluronic acid and peptide lip booster, it's 33 bucks, it's very tiny. It's got a shiny finish and has a metal applicator. This one's almost as shiny as the Peach and Lily."

"Spheres filled with hyaluronic acid work like a sponge to hold moisture and expand it to improve lip volume. Firming peptides help to reduce fine lines, while squalane reduces moisture loss and restores a soft and supple feel to the lips. It has tons of ingredients like castor oil and coco seed butter as well as squalane, which help to moisturize and nourish. It's [...] clear, but I adore the doe-foot metal applicator and the feel has just so impressed me. It keeps my lips juicy for longer and it's probably the best of the glosses that I have tried for longevity because my lips just feel great now. [...] It's just under 30 bucks for 10 ml. My only wish is [...] that it came in colors, because I like a little bit of color, but I'm using this under everything and on its own and I think it's just so good."

"This one is the Hyaluronic Acid Plus Peptide Lip Booster from Paula's Choice for $33. It has been amazing in my own skin routine this year since it came out. It will hydrate the lips, repair cracked damaged lip barrier, and then help plump and build collagen with their peptides in this."

"I've tried this one by Paula's Choice, the Hyaluronic Acid Plus Peptide Lip Booster. [...] The formulation in these is actually extremely similar to other peptide lip products, they have the same peptide profile, but this one is much more affordable. [...] I do like this nice little metal cooling applicator tip that is really nice on this product. [...] This is the one that I've kind of gravitated towards. You can put this on a couple times a day, morning and night, peptides for your lips to maintain that lip volume."

"I finished up the Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid Plus Peptide Lip Booster and loved this. Very moisturizing. I liked using this before going to bed at night. It's got shea butter in it, it's pretty moisturizing. The peptide in it allegedly is going to get in and help with collagen production and whatnot. Anyway, it's very moisturizing."

"I finished this and it got me thinking... I actually really enjoyed this. I shared my opinions on the ingredients and what have you in that video comparing this to the Haley Bieber lip balm. These brands they really need to do in my opinion a better job when it comes to putting peptides in their products instead of just telling us hey there are peptides in here. I would be better if they called out the peptides in some way because I find there's so much variability out there like a lot of times you'll find a product and it'll have one of the two peptides in matrixyl, it won't have both, and you're like okay but unless you have all of those peptide names in your memory bag, you're not gonna know what peptides you're dealing with."
SKINCARE I LOVED & HATED | JULY 2023 @DrDrayzday
"Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid Plus Peptide Lip Booster, I've been using this off and on for two years now. It's a good product. When I use this product my lips are softer, they're moisturized, I have less of a tendency towards irritation. When I'm using it consistently my lips stay moisturized in between. For example, I put it on at night, the following morning I have moisturized lips. I can wake up the next morning and my lips are soft and moisturized after a full night of sleep. Paula's Choice snuck in another peptide for us, palmitoyl tripeptide 38. That's not the same as what is found in Matrixyl 3000, this is a newer peptide, it's a peptide that's naturally found within collagen 6 and within laminin, those are proteins that are important for your skin. The particular peptide manufacturer claims that this peptide is going to boost the production of six different proteins in your skin. The backing behind that claim comes from an in vitro study."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
