What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this as a genuinely effective multitasker that simplifies routines without sacrificing results, with most noting visible improvement in texture and tone within 3 months. The recurring friction point is the fragrance (described as overpowering and problematic for sensitive skin) plus the shiny, dewy finish and silicones that can cause pilling when layering. Some note the price is reasonable for the formulation, though cheaper alternatives with similar ingredients exist; others argue better options exist at the same price point. The ingredient profile itself earns broad respect.

"The Olay Super Serum is like this 5-in-one formula that targets several concerns, which is going to be your uneven texture, your dullness, your loss of firmness, those fine lines, dehydration, like all of it in this one step. What makes it work is the combination of ingredients. So you have things like niacinamide for barrier support and a little bit of brightening. Vitamin C for brightening, that antioxidant protection and tone correction. Then you also have some collagen peptides for firmness. Vitamin E for that additional antioxidant coverage. And then some lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid to help gently encourage the cell turnover. That lactic acid component is worth highlighting specifically for that mature skin. It's one of the mildest AHAs, but it does real work in improving texture and radiance without the irritation you would get from stronger exfoliants. This is a really smart, well-formulated serum that layers really easy under moisturizer and sunscreen for anyone who wants noticeable improvement without managing a full multi-step routine. This is a genuinely practical option for everyday."

The Best Drugstore Skincare for Mature Skin, According to a Derm
"The best all-in-one serum is going to be your Olay Super Serum. This is a multitasking 5-in-1 facial serum that's designed to simplify mature skin routine while still delivering visible results. It targets several common concerns all at the same time, including things like uneven texture, dullness, loss of firmness, fine lines, and dehydration. I like this option for mature skin that wants noticeable improvement without layering multiple serums. It has really lightweight texture. It absorbs really quickly. Works really well under moisturizer, under your sunscreen, making it a really practical everyday option. Being that it's targeting multiple things, it's kind of like jack of all trades. So the results are not going to be fast, but just make sure you give it time. I would give this probably 3 months to start seeing improvement before moving on to something else. The key ingredients are going to be the niacinamide, vitamin C, collagen peptide, vitamin E, and lactic acid or AHA."

"The Olay Super Serum is one of my favorite ones from drugstores when patients and followers want a relatively affordable, easy to find serum that helps to target texture, tone, fine lines, and firmness. I just love the super serum because it is truly a multitasker. Aside from niacinamide, it's got other ingredients that helps to gently exfoliate, improving dullness, helps to brighten your skin, improving uneven skin tone at the same time supporting collagen. So it's really one that it just does it all. And it's lightweight with this kind of pearly sheen that is really pretty, too. And it's hydrating. So this one you can use it day and night. It layers really nicely under makeup, under your moisturizer, and at night too. It's pretty gentle. If you want to use it with a retinol, I think test it out first, but certainly you could make that happen. This would be like the one-stop shop product for those who are looking to simplify their routine with a serum."

"This serum was at least eight years in the making. I had the privilege of speaking with one of their main scientists at Procter and Gamble about the formulation and the research that went into it, which is certainly one thing I appreciate from Olay. I really think of this as an all-star serum, one that can tackle many different skincare concerns, especially if you want to improve the science of aging, fine lines, even skin texture and skin tone, and really want just one product aside from retinol that can target those. And especially if you're someone who wants to simplify your routine and minimize the number of products, this one plus a topical retinol can just be the two actives that can help you achieve your skincare goals. Ingredient-wise, this serum contains niacinamide, vitamin C, vitamin E, lactic acid, and collagen peptides. What really makes the serum unique is that Procter and Gamble is actually one of the four leaders in niacinamide research in skincare, so they're definitely one of the leading authorities in understanding how niacinamide works for skin. With this formulation, what took so long is they actually made it what's called an activated niacinamide so that it works better in a lower pH, which is why it's formulated with lactic acid, and it's been shown to actually be more effective in targeting skin texture and skin tone."

"The vitamin C is an ethylated vitamin C, so more stable than ascorbic acid, but less data on how well it works in the epidermis in reducing dark spots. As soon as it comes out of the bottle, this fragrance is overpowering. It's saccharine at first and then it becomes this floral ginger scent, which I think is overpowering. Right off the bat, I think that Olay needs to change that. They need to take out the fragrance or tone it down big time because I can imagine a lot of my patients with sensitive skin or rosacea getting irritation from this. The texture is great and it rubs in really well with no sticky residue, and when I apply my sunscreen or moisturizer over this, there's no peeling. It is nice and hydrating. It has peptides, which are cell signalers and can help increase collagen production."

Olay Super vs Retinol 24 Max: Which Serum Wins?
"This is their retinoid complex that has retinol and retinyl propionate as their complex that we know works well on collagen production. I would use this more reliably. If they took out the fragrance, this would be a very big contender. If you're new to these actives and want to try them out in small doses, go ahead and try this out. Be very careful, though, if you have sensitive skin and rosacea. If you're focusing on anti-aging and you really want science-backed ingredients like this vitamin A derivative, go with the retinol. If you're in your late 20s and up, go with this. Always follow up with a moisturizer after your retinol."

"The Olay Super Serum has a night version that's fragrance-free. This one has fragrance in it, but it's a hydrating formula that also has some ingredients that are good for overall complexion, dark spots, and redness, namely niacinamide and the alpha hydroxy acid, which can help improve skin smoothness. Vitamin C and vitamin E are antioxidants. It also has tea leaf extract along with niacinamide, so the tea leaf extract is also going to be helpful for warding off free radicals potentially."

Costco Skincare Deals TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
"The ingredients are fine, Olay usually uses fairly reasonable ingredient profiles, but the price point is always what gets me. For these ingredients, there are less expensive drugstore brands that have similar ingredient families, especially niacinamide, which is a dime a dozen. There are also a ton of excellent Korean toners and serums competing with that."
*NEW* SKINCARE AT TARGET WE NEED TO DISCUSS 🛍
"It's a serum that's aimed at improving the appearance of skin texture, dark spots, and fine lines. It has peptides in it which are hydrating, niacinamide, which can help with skin barrier function, lactic acid that can hydrate and soften and smooth the skin, and 3O ethyl ascorbic acid, which is a stable form of vitamin C that may help cut down oxidative stress. It also has glycerin, which is very hydrating."
*BEST* ANTIOXIDANT SKINCARE PRODUCTS AT THE DRUGSTORE
"This is new from Olay, this Super Serum, and it has one of my favorite antioxidants, niacinamide. Not only is it an antioxidant but it's anti-inflammatory, and it does a lot of other things in the skin that can yield benefit. It can help reduce redness, it can help lighten dark spots because it helps to reduce the transfer of pigment packets from the pigment-producing cells, melanocytes, to neighboring keratinocytes. It also helps with the lipids in the top layer of the skin, helping with the moisture barrier. It reduces oxidation of lipids that would otherwise lead to an inflammatory cascade, and for those of you who have acne, it can help slow down the oxidation of sebum and maybe help with acne breakouts. This has a few other antioxidants in it though. It has 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid, vitamin C or a stabilized derivative of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid has been shown to help with lightening hyperpigmentation and it also has been shown to help improve collagen production and reduce oxidative stress upon exposure to UV rays. In this case we're getting 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid, that's a stable derivative, which is important because ascorbic acid by itself is not very stable."

"The super serum has lactic acid, niacinamide, and 3O L ascorbic acid. The lactic acid is good for rough skin texture, niacinamide is good for the moisture barrier, dark spots and redness. 3O ethyl is a form of ascorbic acid that's stable, but whether or not it converts to actual ascorbic acid in the skin is to be determined. This super serum has fragrance, it had a night version of it that does not."

"For me though the cons kind of outweigh the pros if I'm totally honest. First of all, not a cruelty-free product or brand, so if that matters to you that's obviously going to be a deal breaker. The fragrance, personally I don't mind fragrance in skincare but I know a lot of people seek to avoid it, so if you're avoiding fragrance this probably isn't going to be for you. And the fact it lingers, I wish brands if they do use fragrance would just go for something a little lighter, not something that we have to carry around like a perfume all day long because that's not the most pleasant experience. And that pilling is to be expected because the silicones in here, if you leave it on the skin to just sink in a little bit longer you can get around that, but it's worth bearing in mind if you're someone that likes to lay a lot of products one after the other, this could be a little bit problematic. One of the key problems though is this contains mica, so mica is used in skincare to give like a pearlescent look."

Viral 'FACELIFT IN A BOTTLE' Serum - Olay Super Serum Review
"It can make the skin look a little bit shiny. If you like that dewy, jewey look to the skin great, but she prefers a slightly more matte appearance and this was definitely on the dewy shiny look which wasn't to her preference. Overall she'd give it a six out of 10, which I think is quite fair scoring when you look at the price point, the formulation and the results that you've seen. 21 days worth of wear to see a noticeable improvement in your hyperpigmentation and some firming, I think that's pretty good. The formulation is probably the best formulated of all of the Olay products out there. I like those five key actives, the vitamin C is in a stabilized form so it'll have a long shelf life. I like the fact that they're using lactic acid rather than glycolic acid, more gentle in my opinion, much more effective. They've combined that Pro collagen peptide which I like to see. It really is a streamlined like skincare routine in a bottle. I think it's a good formulation and I think it's a fair price point."

Viral 'FACELIFT IN A BOTTLE' Serum - Olay Super Serum Review
"Olay is promising smoother skin which it delivers some marginal anti-aging benefit which it seems to deliver and to help fade hyperpigmentation which it absolutely will. Ultimately I won't be buying this product, and I think it's that my deal breaker plus the amount of silicones in here which will make layering and pairing a little difficult. Does that make it a terrible product absolutely not but I just don't think it's going to be right for me. There's a place for a serum like this in your skincare routine with multiple different actives altogether to streamline help take the time and cost out of your routine but there are better ones on the market."

I'm Over 40, Here's EVERYTHING I Do to My Skin (DETAILED w/ TIMESTAMPS)
"I love this serum. First of all, relatively speaking, it's not super expensive for everything that you get with this serum. It helps to improve hydration, which we need because the skin starts to dry as we get older. It helps with smoothness, firmness, brightness, texture, like all of that. And it also has that antioxidant protection. During the day, all kinds of stuff is coming for our skin between UV, the free radicals, pollution, all of that stuff."
Don't Waste Your Money on THIS Skincare Product...
"What I love about this product is that it provides five luxury serum benefits in just one product. Five luxury serum benefits and it's like 30 bucks, so like for me that's a win. The benefits are: hydrate, it can help to even the skin's tone, it can help to visually plump the skin, it helps to brighten and it helps to smooth visible lines. Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is found in a lot of skincare because it has some amazing benefits. It helps to repair the skin's barrier, which is great if you have dry skin because it helps to soothe the barrier and help you to retain more of that hydration that your skin really needs. It's also great for oily skin because it helps to even things out so you're not as oily. It's also an antioxidant which helps to protect the skin from all of the gunk that's just in the environment throughout the day."

My Favourite Innovative Products of 2023
"The Olay Super Serum is the best new product I've tried in a really long time. For a serum that has actives like this I will start with my skin at its best, using my standard skincare routine for a few weeks, then I'll start using the new serum as the only active product while still using cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreens that I'm really familiar with so I know what they're going to do to my skin and can see any difference."
