What the gurus are saying

This mineral sunscreen with 17.5% zinc oxide skips the white cast that typically dogs mineral formulas on fair skin. It blends to a lightweight finish despite coming out thick, feels moisturizing enough to skip a moisturizer, and contains colloidal oatmeal that soothes sensitive skin and compromised barriers. One thing to keep in mind: it's not water resistant, so it won't hold up to swimming or heavy sweating.

"This is all mineral with a zinc oxide of 17.5%. This is great for those that have sensitive skin or for those that experience compromised skin barriers due to active ingredients like tretinoin and so on. This contains colloidal oatmeal and this ingredient is very calming and soothing. It can help to repair the barrier, moisturize your skin, but also help to reduce itching, that burning sensation, and of course redness. This is fragrance free and I really like this underneath makeup or underneath a tinted sunscreen, but this is great on its own as well. It's a little bit thicker when it comes out so it's that true white sunscreen, but surprisingly it's very lightweight on the skin. It's not greasy and sticky. I would say it's kind of like skin-like, but it does keep your skin a little bit glowy which I think looks really beautiful. I really like this especially for my neck area if my neck is ever feeling compromised, and this is again moisturizing so you could skip your moisturizer if you really wanted to. I truly don't really see a white cast on my skin."

NOTICEABLE RESULTS! ULTIMATE DRUGSTORE ANTI-AGING SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR BEGINNERS & ADVANCED USERS
"This is honestly the first sunscreen from the drugstore that I actually love. With drugstore sunscreens, I don't mind the ones from L'Oréal Posay, but anything else sometimes they're just too heavy, they're too greasy. Sometimes the tinted options are just too dark for my fair skin and nothing blends nicely. But this is incredible."
BUDGET FRIENDLY DRUGSTORE SKINCARE THAT YOU NEED TO TRY NOW IN 2024 - THESE GIVE THAT "WOW" FACTOR!
"The zinc oxide here is 17.5%. This is not water resistant, so keep that in mind if you're going to be swimming or sweating a lot. But it is fragrance-free. There is no white cast, especially on my fair skin. A lot of mineral sunscreens will leave a slight cast on my fair skin, this one does not. It blends in so nicely. It comes out cream, and when you start massaging this into your skin it turns into this really lightweight texture and consistency, and your skin absorbs it so nicely. Your makeup sits nicely on top of this as well, no peeling. When I'm spreading this across the skin it just absorbs so quickly. It does have this nice moisturized feel to it as well, so your skin will feel really comfortable. You could skip a moisturizer that day and just use this, and honestly it would be sufficient enough. I also think this is going to be great for the spring summer months. The formulation is truly on point. It's broad spectrum SPF 30, and whether you want to use this with makeup or not it sits nicely with or without. It is one of the best from the drugstore."

"The Olay sensitive SPF 30 has gone up in price, it used to be like twelve bucks and now it's like fifteen here at Walmart, which is probably the least expensive. It's a hybrid sunscreen, the cast is not bad and it's very moisturizing. It's just a good everyday moisturizer with sunscreen, and it has tea leaf extract and niacinamide, so antioxidants that may help minimize oxidative stress."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
