What the gurus are saying

Disclosure of the 0.3% retinol concentration earns genuine praise from dermatologists who value transparency on strength, making this a trustworthy entry point for those ready to move beyond gentler retinols. Gurus consistently rank Neutrogena among the best drugstore retinol options and emphasize that the brand's long track record in retinoid formulation and stability testing backs up the recommendation. Start with a pea-sized amount and pair it with moisturizer, and avoid layering it with other Neutrogena retinol products like their oils or serums.

"Neutrogena's made a nice Retinol Pro Plus that discloses the percentage of retinol. I usually say go for .25% and up retinol, but they don't talk about what percentage they're giving you. I like that Neutrogena has made a nice new retinol that will disclose at 0.3%. That's a good big thumbs up. If you're in your 30s and up, go for Neutrogena either their regular OG Rapid Wrinkle Repair or if you want to go for their newer Retinol Pro Plus, especially if you have tried their original Rapid Wrinkle Repair and tolerated it, go for the higher one and see if you like it. I've actually enjoyed using that product. I just want to give a shout out to Neutrogena for disclosing their percentage of retinol."

Unlocking The Secrets Of Layering Skincare Serums: Dermatologist's Layering Serums 101 Guide
"Neutrogena came out with serums oils and creams. Their retinol oil has disclosed 0.3% strength and their serums have 0.5% in strength. They also disclose the strength of their retinol if you buy the Pro Plus. I would not layer those. I would not layer an oil, the serum with the cream. I would just stick to one."

"If you start over the counter there's Neutrogena, they all have really good retinols, they're going to be the mildest category retinol. really the brand on the front doesn't matter as much as the active ingredient."

"I love Neutrogena retinols because Neutrogena, a Johnson and Johnson company, they've been doing retinols for a long time. They earned my trust long before I was ever on YouTube as an over-the-counter cosmetic retinol to recommend to patients, and you will see me recommend it over and over again. Their retinols are some of the best in the industry in my opinion."

5 Myths About Skincare You Need To Stop Believing Now
"The retinols that I've recommended in a lot of my videos from Neutrogena come in a jar package, but the formula is actually stable and the brands test the formula to be stable in that type of packaging system. I learned firsthand when I toured the Dermatology warehouse and saw all the testing that they put products through in terms of packaging to ensure stability. Products also have preservatives in them that help protect the formula from degradation upon exposure to light and air. The final formulation overall really influences not only penetration in the skin and efficacy outcomes but also product formulation stability. Don't bypass products in jar packaging over those in airless pumps. It's not necessarily any better."
