What the gurus are saying

The peptide innovation drew real praise, with one expert noting clinical evidence that the specially developed peptide can help improve wrinkles and skin firmness. The 15% vitamin C concentration is strong enough for those stepping up from lower doses, and several gurus found it gentle and non-irritating compared to typical ascorbic acid serums. However, the formula around that peptide drew mixed takes: one expert felt the vitamin C formulation could be stronger to truly maximize benefits, and another flagged a persistent orange-peel aroma that lingers on skin all day, which may or may not bother depending on sensitivity to scent. Best applied first thing in the morning to clean skin.

Best Vitamin C Serums of 2025- Dermatologist’s Top Picks
"The Neutrogena Collagen Bank has depeptide technology for collagen boosting. You have vitamin C which is 15% ascorbic acid and you got 2% gluconolactone or PHA which is a gentle exfoliant. So you're getting some exfoliative properties as well as brightening properties and some collagen boosting. I love this vitamin C serum so far and it's very affordable. It's great for beginners or for people who want to try out a higher percentage from the 10% ascorbic acid."
Overhyped Skincare Ingredients for Collagen Boosting- Dermatologist Reviews
"Neutrogena, they've done a pretty good job with theirs, too. Neutrogena specifically has also combined their peptides with their vitamin C."

"This was not a bad experience for me. Normally I find ascorbic acid serums burn, sting, and they get oxidized over time. They turn the skin kind of this orangey hue. They end up being really irritating for me. And I'd never experienced that with this. I finished the entire bottle, got no orange discoloration, didn't stain things. It does have that kind of toasty ascorbic acid serum aroma to it. The other thing about this collagen bank vitamin C serum and the entire collagen bank line that is underrated is the peptide in it, this teeny tiny peptide they spent 15 years developing. There is actually clinical evidence in a peer-reviewed paper that looks at the peptide applied to the skin of actual human volunteers documenting benefits and visible results as far as improving wrinkles and improving jaw contour and saggy skin."

*NEW* Neutrogena Collagen Bank Vitamin C Serum & SPF 30 Review
"For a vitamin C serum, this has not caused me any irritation. It has not caused me to have discolored orange skin. It hasn't changed color. I've been using it for several weeks now, but without a doubt, you can smell this on the skin. As with many ascorbic acid serums I have found over the years, they all for me when I wear them, I smell a little smell very similar to when you peel a bunch of oranges and you take a whiff of your fingers. That smell, it's lingering on your face all day while you're wearing this. It does not fade. It's kind of like, did I smell orange juice all over my face? Yeah, it's that kind of aroma, which for some people, you may not even notice. It may not bother you. I notice it. This is a product you want to apply in the morning, as vitamin C serums are recommended to be used as the first step in your morning skincare routine to a cleansed face."

"The vitamin C, it's fine, but it's an ascorbic acid serum that I think could be formulated a little bit better in order to maximize the benefits you're going to get from that vitamin C. There's nothing in here that I think is groundbreaking. I think there are far better vitamin C serums out there. It feels like they've created something special in terms of that peptide and then just put any old formula alongside it. I want it a little bit better."
