What they flagged

Nothing. None of the experts who reviewed it raised a problem.

    What the gurus are saying

Oxyresveratrol and tetrapeptide work together to block tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin, making this particularly effective for stubborn hyperpigmentation and melasma that does not respond well to other treatments. Gurus praise it as a gentler alternative to prescription options like hydroquinone, especially for those too sensitive for vitamin C. The dual-bottle design keeps the antioxidant fresh throughout use, since antioxidants break down quickly once exposed to air.

"This is the Medik8 Oxy-R Peptides. I love this. "This, if you haven't tried it, is stunning for hyperpigmentation. It uses a potent antioxidant to really fight and fade that hyperpigmentation. A lot of people will traditionally reach for vitamin C's. They might opt for a high strength exfoliator or a retinoid. They're all great for hyperpigmentation, but the missing link might be a nice high strength antioxidant. And this one definitely delivers. Also has some brightening peptides in here, too. So, it's like a double whammy. And I love this one so so much that I actually covered it in a separate video. It's so good particularly for hyperpigmentation. This is a dream."
4x BETTER ANTI AGING (You Wont Believe The Results) - Medik8 Review
"I want to talk about a product called the Oxy R Peptides. This is a product I hear nobody speak about. It's just gone totally under the radar. Nobody talks about it, but I think it's a true holy grail for certain people. What this does is it uses oxyresveratrol, which is a patented antioxidant known for being able to really brighten and lift the tonality of the skin, but it also is fantastic at fading hyperpigmentation, particularly stubborn hyperpigmentation. My hyperpigmentation responds quite well to most things out there, so I'm not the best candidate to use this. I actually gave it to my mom, who has much more stubborn hyperpigmentation and melasma. She used both bottles and she's already repurchased and she absolutely loves it because it's helped lift the hyperpigmentation and the melasma in a way that a lot of things haven't. Melasma is particularly tricky to treat. You can reach for prescription things like hydroquinone, but they come with a lot of side effects and you have to get the prescription. I would say this is like the next best thing when it comes to fading stubborn hyperpigmentation, lifting the skin, and just giving a really nice overall boost to radiance. It's also not super expensive."

"I love everything Medik8 do in the anti-aging game and this to me has been a little holy grail. Couple of drops of this morning and night and your glow game will be on point and you'll be radiating to the gods in no time. It genuinely works. I know not everybody wants that boost to radiance and luminosity, that might not be their anti-aging goal, but if it's yours, this is where it's at."
MOVE OVER VITAMIN C - This Hyperpigmentation Serum Blew Me Away
"I've been really, really impressed. The glow up you get from using this product was pretty much instant. I put this on my skin one morning and I definitely noticed after about 30 minutes that my skin just looked a little healthier. Just a little bit more glowy after around a week of using it consistently, I definitely found that the glow up was shining through. I have no notes when it comes to the claims that the brand are making about this because I think it's kind of ticked every single one of them. The reason this works so well is because they're using that potent antioxidant in order to deliver the hyperpigmentation fighting. Oxyresver is a known tyrosinase inhibitor, so it reduces the amount of excess pigment being produced. You eradicate that excess pigment already there using those two powerful peptides and the gluconolactone and it's not replaced in the same way. In a relatively short space of time, you're really going to see a brightening of the complexion and more evening out of the skin tone and fading those dark spots and discoloration. My specific hyperpigmentation is linked to my adult acne and some sun damage. If you have very persistent and hard to shift melasma, for example, you're probably not going to get the same advanced results that I got from this. So set your expectations, but it will still work. As long as you go in with the right expectations based on your individual form of hyperpigmentation, I think you definitely won't be disappointed. It honestly works so well."

"This has oxyresveratrol, which is an antioxidant that has all of the beneficial antioxidant effects but it also has the ability to inhibit tyrosine, which is an enzyme in our skin that produces melanin and pigment. So when you block that enzyme from functioning, you reduce that excess pigment formation. In addition to the oxyresveratrol, this also has tetrapeptide 30, which is a peptide that also blocks tyrosine. So specifically for people who have hyperpigmentation and especially for those who are too sensitive to use vitamin C, which is also great for hyperpigmentation, I highly, highly recommend you try this. One package of this comes with two bottles and you activate them separately so that you go through one entire bottle and then you activate the second bottle because the big issue with antioxidants is they can be quite unstable. Medik8 has done a very smart thing here and they have you go through half the product at once and then you can activate the other half of the product so that what you're using is always going to be in its most efficacious form. If you have a vitamin C that you love and use successfully, don't stop it for the sake of this. I would just put this in your nighttime skincare routine instead. After you cleanse your face at night, put this on and then proceed with the rest of your routine."

"I love the triple threat approach at really targeting dark marks and uneven skin tone right at the source. Medik8 did clinical testing on the product from the fairest to the deepest skin tones and showed that it was effective at brightening the skin and fading hyperpigmentation in all skin types. The respiratory trials benefits definitely do extend beyond tackling dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It has the anti-inflammatory benefits of soothing and calming the skin, it has the antioxidant ability to fight against environmental stressors, and it does have anti-aging abilities. It helps with reducing fine lines and wrinkles from its interaction with a protein called aulin. It's one of those underrated antioxidants that you just may want to include into your routine. The key is truly consistency and using it with other combined ingredients that are going to enhance its results. Like other antioxidant serums, you definitely want to apply it first right after cleansing."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Source: NIH, National Library of Medicine

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

    Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
