What the gurus are saying

Gurus split sharply on this one: it hardens and dries so intensely that skin felt tight and overstimulated, yet praise went specifically to its pore-tightening power. The AHA and BHA offer only minor benefit against the excessive hardening and stimulation. Those with dry or sensitive skin should definitely patch-test first, and consider using it just occasionally rather than regularly.

"Medicube is something that can give you a lot of nourishment. It can give hydrate and moisturize your skin well. [...] Medicube overall, except for one product, which is their pore mask with the blue one that I love. I think other than that, Medicube is a great aesthetic brand. It's a fun brand. It's a young, quirky brand. But when it comes to formula efficacy, it has a long, long way to go."

"This was the strongest and most drying of the three viral pore tightening mud masks I tested. It works fast, three to five minutes, and comes with a convenient tube and spatula. But as soon as I put it on I felt so dry, it hardens so quickly and excessively that you can see all the pores and feel it sticking hard to the skin, way too much stimulation. After washing it off my skin felt tight and dry. It does have AHA and BHA which helps a little, but that is a really small advantage compared to the downsides."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
