  • Blends without white cast, matte finish

What they flagged

  • Tint can read orange on very pale skin

What the gurus are saying

The tint sits right between sunscreen and subtle coverage, reflecting light evenly without looking heavy or chalky on lighter skin tones. What earns real praise is the formula itself: zinc oxide provides the mineral barrier, while DNA repair enzymes and peptide Q10 work to visibly tackle photoaging damage. Those prone to melasma or hyperpigmentation find the tinted version especially useful, though the brand does offer an untinted option if the tint reads too dark on you.

"This is the ISDIN Eryfotona Ageless Mineral Broadspectrum Tinted Face Sunscreen. This is SPF 50. I love this. [...] I feel like I can get two to three good finger lengths of this sunscreen on my face and it provides good coverage and it provides just enough of a tint look and reflects the light just right. I just love the way it feels and goes on. If you're somebody with lighter skin tone and this is too dark on you, the brand makes a plain white one. [...] It is a two-in-one SPF that defends against UV damage while also helping repair with zinc oxide, peptides, antioxidants. It also contains DNA repair enzymes to visibly combat the signs of photoaging. The tinted version is great for those who are prone to melasma, hyperpigmentation. [...] The key ingredients here are the zinc oxide, the DNA repair enzymes, the peptide Q10, and vitamin E."

"A tinted mineral sunscreen to protect my skin not only from ultraviolet radiation but also visible light that can potentially drive hyperpigmentation. I've been playing around with the ISDIN Eryfotona Ageless, and I really love that one because it's also waterproof, so if I need to go outside for some reason I'll put that on. I think mineral sunscreens are just nicer to put on your skin, less irritating compared to chemical."

"It also contains glycerin, which is a humectant helping your skin hold on water, and bisabolol for soothing, so to me this goes beyond just a sunscreen because it offers so many other skin loving benefits, and the tint is pretty great. It's a little bit liquidy, when I'm really pale coming out of the winter it can be a little bit orange on me, but I just love this sunscreen and I'm obsessed with this brand, the ISDIN Eryfotona line, and I will forever be singing its praises. But it rubs in really well, no white cast, and it does give a really nice, almost matte finish, it definitely covers up any imperfections, and I would say this is a pretty universally flattering tint. It can be a little, like I mentioned, orange on me when I'm really pale coming out of winter."

"I do recommend using an iron oxide containing sunscreen if you struggle with hyperpigmentation because studies have shown that iron oxides can actually block visible light and that can be very helpful for preventing further darkening of your existing dark spots. I have the ISDIN Eryfotona Ageless sunscreen which also contains photolysase, a DNA repair enzyme that helps to repair damage to the DNA from sun."

"I'm going to wear the ISDIN Ageless, the tinted one, the sunscreen with DNA repair enzymes I reviewed earlier this week. I tried it as a sample a few years ago and I really liked it."

"I personally get very sensitive, especially around my eyes with mineral sunscreens, so I love the one by Isdin, the Eryfotona Ageless Ultra Light Tinted Mineral SPF because it doesn't look cakey, especially since your skin is going to feel more textured post treatment in the first week."

"This is the tinted version and also has some antioxidants and some anti-aging peptides in it as well. It's a little too tinted for my skin if you don't have a fake tan on super lightweight. You can kind of get a sense of the color there. It's a little warm on me. The other benefit of using a tinted sunscreen if you have hyperpigmentation or melasma is the iron oxides in the tinted sunscreen help block blue light from the sun, and we know that blue light also contributes to pigmentation, not just UV radiation, so if you have a tint in your sunscreen that's like bonus points."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
