What the gurus are saying

This creamy moisturizer blends vitamin C and Matrixyl 3000 peptides, buffing in beautifully while supporting collagen production. It earns praise for its texture and consistency, particularly for dry skin, and works well as a daytime alternative to retinol. Some prefer the flexibility of separate vitamin C and peptide serums, but the formula itself is well-formulated and accomplishes what it's designed to do.

"This is a vitamin C and peptide product, it has a 10% complex of two different forms of vitamin C derivatives plus a 10% peptide complex, and it also has shea butter in it. I've enjoyed this, it buffs in really nicely, a true cream, perfect for dry skin types. In all truth though I don't think I'm going to buy a full size of this, because I like a vitamin C serum in the mornings and a peptide serum at night, so it's just not a perfect fit for my routine, even though I've enjoyed using it."

"This one has a vitamin C complex in it, so don't be fooled by the 10 percent written on the box—it's not 10 percent vitamin C, it's a complex of three o-ethyl ascorbate and THD, and it also has at least 10 peptide complex, which is not 10 peptides but a combination of peptides. The other thing with peptides is we just don't know the percentage, so don't be fooled by percentages on boxes. But this is a nice one because it also has palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, which is anti-inflammatory, as well as palmitoyl tripeptide-1. These two make up Matrixyl 3000, which is a trademark peptide composed by Sedurma in France and is the first anti-aging ingredient based on matrikine peptide technology. They work synergistically to restore and maintain the skin's youthful appearance by signaling cells to produce more collagen. If you do not want to use a retinol cream but you just want to use a nice moisturizer for the day as well, it's very nice. There is no scent, it is a beautiful consistency, and honestly well done."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
