What the gurus are saying

The lightweight, sealed-feel texture works beautifully under makeup, earning consistent praise, though dry skin types find it too thin for nighttime use. Reviewers call the daytime moisturizing power exceptional and note it performs flawlessly under makeup, even for oily skin. If you have dry skin, you may want to reserve this for daytime or pair it with a richer night cream.

"It's very easy to use, and it's fine for pregnant women or anyone too sensitive to retinol, since the Pakchoju version can be a good replacement. That doesn't mean it's great for everybody though, some people do break out from it, so keep that in mind. Otherwise it has an easy pumping type, it's great before makeup and at night time too, and it's an affordable, great way to start using eye cream."

"This is the Haru Wonder bakuchiol eye cream. For moisturizing power I'm putting this in S tier. It feels sealed, like a thin moisture coating locked onto the skin. My makeup artist friend picked this as one of her top two favorites [...] because it works beautifully under makeup and felt like something she could confidently recommend to almost anyone, I'd recommend it for anyone starting to feel end of day dryness, even with oily skin."

"The Haruharu Wonder eye cream is pretty affordable, and when I was testing it with other makeup artists it got pretty good reviews because it wasn't too heavy, it was pretty okay for anybody, lightweight. So if you don't want something too heavy that's an easy one to try."

"This product only has bucha and niacinamide, they've called it a retinol alternative, so yes you can wear this during pregnancy but it's not going to do anything much for the eyes. It's like a moisturizer, it's like wearing a bucha moisturizer or a niacinamide moisturizer. It's just not worth it."

"The Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream was such a good daytime eye cream for the summer, [...] it's a lightweight eye cream, I really enjoyed it. [...] Not sure I'd repurchase it though, because there are a lot of good eye cream options."

BEST & WORST of Haruharu Wonder! (with important updates to the science...)
"This has niacinamide, which is effective, and I've seen a lot of people say they felt this was a very brightening eye cream, though that's probably from the niacinamide rather than the bakuchiol. It has a lightweight feel and is nice under makeup, but as a dry skin type it's too light for nighttime use. I see why some people really like it, but for me it's just kind of okay, and [...] I don't know if I'll go back to it as my default now that I've found another eye cream I prefer."

"Bakuchiol is usually known as a retinoid alternative, but I always like to point out it's really a nice antioxidant ingredient. I'm not looking for a retinol alternative, I'm very happy with my adapalene, but I love bakuchiol, and 5% in here is a good level. I have a dry skin type so I prefer creams over gels, and this is a beautiful, lightweight texture. I decided to stop using retinol products around my eye area more recently, so this is a very welcome addition for me personally."

"It's the texture. It's gross. I don't like it. It is so strange. It is a cream, it almost looks like it's going to be like a cream gel type of texture, but it's not. Once you spread it, it feels like almost balmy and ointment-like. It almost feels like a cream with some Vaseline in it. I was expecting something a little bit lighter, more lotion-like, but it's actually a lot thicker than it first appears. It's definitely occlusive, it's definitely balmy. There's a little bit of a rich slip to it."
~Yay
"It's not oily and it's not sticky, so it doesn't sit heavy under the eyes. It's not going to look like a greasy mess. [...] They actually recommend using it as a makeup base as well so you don't get like all creepy underneath there. It absorbs super quick, it's not sticky. You don't have to spend like 10 minutes patting this thick cream into your under eyes, which is what usually makes me stop using eye creams. You could use it in the morning as well, twice a day."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
