What the gurus are saying

Azelaic acid at a meaningful strength earns praise for tackling redness, closed comedones, and uneven texture, with niacinamide included to soothe easily irritated skin. Gurus recommend using it in the morning all over the face but skipping the eye area, since the acid does not belong there. One sponsored take dissented, but the other voices found it works well for most skin types.

"Dr Sam's Flawless Brightening Serum is really nice. She's got a NAD and vitamin C serum which I want to try, but from what I understand NAD might not be really that absorbable into the skin, but it's becoming bigger and bigger and I keep hearing things about it."

"Dr Sam's Flawless Brightly Serum, this one contains bakuchi, niacinamide, salicylic acid, absorbable glucose in the form of vitamin C. This one's a really good one for brightening skin or for anti-aging or if you're looking for a nice product to help with redness, this is a good one."

"For benefits it's just so good for pigment and redness and you know keeping my skin calm"

"It doesn't stink as much as the rest but it is definitely mattifying once it dries out. If you are expecting a glow you will not get it with this. However if you have melasma or hyperpigmentation from inflammation this is a great one to add on as well because you get a little bit of everything else in the process."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
