  • Panthenol and peptides for soothing

What they flagged

  • Viscous texture, harder to use as sheet mask

What the gurus are saying

B5 panthenol is the real standout, delivering soothing benefits when paired with multiple hyaluronic acids, fermented ingredients, and no fragrance for sensitive skin, according to reviewers. The texture runs thicker than typical toners, so those who make DIY sheet masks may want to reach for something more liquid. The generous bottle size offers excellent value.

"I originally saw this new COSRX toner on the Ulta website, then went to Yes Style because it was a little less expensive. I don't think we're going to escape PDRN, but at least COSRX is doing something different with this one, it's five different types of PDRN, vegan types and salmon PDRN, though I don't know if that's actually going to win people over, I sort of feel like it might be the opposite. I didn't buy this product for the PDRN at all though, I really bought it because B5 panthenol is one of my favorite soothing ingredients and it's a really nice formula. It looks great for my sensitive skin, no fragrance, all those different forms of hyaluronic acid, lactobacillus ferment, peptides. It does have niacinamide, and I know some people can't use that ingredient, but it works for a lot of people. Now, I will say the texture of this is not as watery as I thought it would be, so it's surprisingly a little harder to make DIY sheet masks since it's more viscous. But this really is a huge bottle, fantastic."

"So yeah, I'll definitely pick that one up if it's on sale."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
