What the gurus are saying

This tinted mineral sunscreen hydrates and protects the eye area while offering light color correction, and mineral formulas are gentler on sensitive eye skin than chemical sunscreens. However, the shade range skews peachy, so those with deeper or cooler undertones may want to test the shade first or layer concealer on top to get the coverage they need.

"The Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 is a great product. It was the first under eye sunscreen that I really loved. It's a tinted mineral, so it hydrates under your eyes. It color corrects and it also protects that delicate eye skin that shows the signs of aging first. And mineral sunscreen also is less likely to irritate your eyes."

"The Colorescience Total Eye 3 in 1 medium shade I can't use on its own -- I have to put a concealer on top because it's just too peachy. [...] I feel like you should try the other brand first before going to Colorescience."

"Their Total Eye Three in One is a tinted sunscreen concealer for under the eyes, and it really has a nice under eye brightening effect."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
