What the gurus are saying

Yam root as a vegan snail mucin alternative earns praise from reviewers who love the goopy, hydrating texture and glow, especially for those avoiding shellfish. The serum layers under moisturizer to lock in hydration; used alone, it feels sticky. Reviewers note the pump packaging leaves product unreachable at the bottom. At $16, reviewers say it's worth checking out.

"The Byoma Phyto Mucin Glow Serum, I think this one was 16 bucks. It's a really nice serum from Byoma. It uses yam root as an alternative to snail mucin, so if you've always wanted to try like the CosRx snail cream but maybe you're vegan or you're allergic to certain ingredients (shellfish, I think, if you're allergic to that, can't use it), this one's a nice alternative. No scent, it's got a wonderful gel texture to it, and a little bit goes a long way, so it's really nice. Probably my favorite product from Byoma so far. It's got water, glycerin, butylene glycol, all those good things."

"It uses yam root as its mucin, and it's got a really nice serum gel texture, but it's got that goopiness to it. You can kind of see it there, but it's really nice. I use a lot on my neck. So for Phyto Mucin, this is one of the most goopy options, which I like because it makes it more hydrating, not so much for daytime, but anyway, really nice product."

"Next up is the new product, the Byoma Phyto Mucin Glow Serum, which is 16 bucks. It's a serum gel texture with yam root peptides and ceramides, and it's got a nice goopy texture. If you're into the snail mucin products, this one's a nice vegan alternative because it uses the yam root, and yam root apparently, according to all these brands, is the closest plant product to snail mucin. So it's a really nice glow product. If you have drier skin, or use it at night, it gives your skin a nice glow feeling and hydration. Nice cute packaging as well, I think this will be refillable, I have a feeling."

"I'm going to put it on my neck because my neck is very dry, because it's like zero degrees today. It feels nice, has a bit of a radiant finish. It is kind of tacky, I guess it hasn't fully soaked in, but it's a little tacky. Actually it's very tacky. I guess you're meant to really use it under moisturizer, I think. Apply, and then finish with moisturizer. So it is very sticky."

"It's got a vegan snail root, or snail mucin, in the form of yamroot. It's got a really nice serumy, lotiony, gellish texture to it. This stuff's got no scent in it. It's also got a peptide. It's got panthenol and polyglutamic acid for hydration. It's a really nice serum, no fragrance, pretty affordable. I think it's like 17 bucks, so with 20% off it's like 14 bucks or so. Really nice product, highly worth checking out."

"It's got solvents, glycerin, which I love, your water magnet. Then it's got peptides, which are basically like chemical messengers between cells to help rejuvenate skin cells. It's got panthenol, which is anti-inflammatory, plus ceramides. And ceramides are key if you have a damaged skin barrier. So I actually love this product. Bioma, you've done an outstanding job."

"It's a little filmy, that's why I like to put a moisturizer on over it to really lock everything in. There's not a whole lot going on in the realm of emollient effect here either, to kind of smooth and soften. So that's kind of an aesthetic difference and a functional difference, in that it doesn't really optimally lock in hydration like a moisturizer would, but it doesn't build itself as a moisturizer, it is a glow serum. Overall I think this is really good in the search for alternatives to snail mucin, I think this is a really good option. This is pretty darn close, I really, really like it."

Would I Buy It Again? Derm Empties Review
"Finished up another bottle of the BYOMA Phytoin Glow Serum. This stuff is so good. It's nice and viscous, just like I like. It has a hydrating and plumping effect, layers under sunscreen in the daytime and moisturizer at night beautifully. My one gripe with this product is really the packaging. I feel like I'm guessing as to if it's empty or not, because you get down to a part where the pump is not really effectively reaching all of the corners, so you're like, do I still have product in there? It takes a little bit of patience whacking this on the side of your sink to make sure that you get as much product in the area underneath the pump, but you can't really see it. So yeah, that's a frustration with the BYOMA packaging for sure. The thing I love about this though is that it has poly glutamic acid, which is very hydrating but also kind of creates this nice lightweight veil on the skin to reduce water loss. It's an ingredient that I always really enjoy in moisturizing products, serums. I find that it really helps give my skin some more suppleness, elasticity, smoothness. So I really enjoy this quite a bit. It works well around the eyelid area as well. You can put it on your neck. I just wish this came in a bigger bottle honestly, because this is my third bottle of them."
