What the gurus are saying

Though the formula earns praise for gentle, hydrating ingredients perfect for sensitive skin, the physical pads reportedly peel easily with frayed edges and loose fibers that stick during application. The ingredients include hyaluronic acid and galactomyces ferment for hydration and brightness, while collagen functions as a humectant rather than an anti-aging ingredient. For sensitive skin seeking fragrance-free hydration, the formula appeals, but the pad quality issues are worth weighing.

"These are actually pretty good. They're also very popular. [...] I think it's a really nice product and I actually really enjoy using these. [...] One thing that really stands out to me about these particular gel toner pads is that [...] the ingredients are a little bit more edited. They're a little bit more sensitive skin friendly. We don't have any drying forms of alcohol, fragrance, or essential oils here. And crucially, we don't have any rose water in this formula, which was something that actually caused some inflammation and irritation with my skin. [...] They're using low molecular weight collagen, which is not an anti-aging or well-aging ingredient, but what it is is it's a great humectant and a great moisturizer for the skin. Brings a lot of hydration. They're using hyaluronic acid, a couple forms, as well as galactomyces ferment, which is a really great ingredient for the skin. There are a lot of vitamins, minerals, amino acids in galactomyces that really help to promote healthy skin. Lots of antioxidant protection as well. And it also just brightens up the skin."

"It is one of my recommended picks from Biodance. [...] Ingredients-wise, it's very simple, straightforward, and sensitive skin friendly, in my opinion. You know, no fragrances here, no essential oils, no drying forms of alcohol, and not even any like fragrant plant extracts, which can kind of be sneaky in the K beauty world. [...] For very sensitive skin, you want to be aware of it. [...] Very straightforward ingredients list. That's kind of what drew me in when I was looking at the back of the box at Sephora. [...] My skin, my sensitive skin is saying yes, please. Collagen, you know, not really the ingredient for addressing fine lines and wrinkles, at least not in topical skin care. [...] It's just a really big molecule. It just does not get deeply meaningfully into the skin and it doesn't really go where it needs to go to address the fine lines and wrinkles, but what it is actually really good at is hydrating and moisturizing your skin. I really like these because they're not your average."

"Everybody knows Biodance for their collagen gel mask, and they made it into a toner pad. It's my holy grail, it's transparent, very soft, and even for sensitive skin it doesn't really stick that much."

"This gel toner pad is loaded with a lot of serum, which seems great for dry skin, but it peels easily and the edges are frayed, making it feel like it wasn't finished properly. The loose fibers stick to your face, which is annoying, especially when applying makeup afterward. Since it's a gel pad it should give a cooling, hydrating feel when it's on your skin, but the adhesion is terrible, it just slides right off."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.
