What the gurus are saying

This balm cleanser earns consistent praise for its soothing feel and rich hydration, with gurus highlighting how gentle it is on delicate eye areas and how well it absorbs without leaving residue. Dermatologists and beauty experts note it works across skin types, though those with dry or mature skin may find it especially suited to their needs. The main caveat is the price point, while the quality is there, some find it hard to justify at full cost and may wait for a discount.

"The cleansing balm, super luxury, super expensive. I love it but I will not pay full price for it. I was able to get one on a really good sale a year or so ago and then Gary also gave me one for Christmas last year. I love the experience just not the price tag. So I will only repurchase it if I can find it on a good offer. It's just Bader, it's luxury, and if I had all the money in the world I would bathe in Bader."

"I've tried oil cleansers and balm cleansers and I'm definitely a balm cleanser kind of girl and I've tried several brands and I like several brands but I love this one, like love it. [...] It is soothing, it does not irritate my eyes. I do consider this balm cleanser to be appropriate for all skin types, especially if you're dry and mature. Now I'm combination to oily and I find it very suitable for my skin, especially since I'm doing a second cleanser afterwards."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Peptides

Peptides are short protein fragments meant to signal repair. The evidence for them is thinner than for retinoids or vitamin C, and it varies a lot by the specific peptide, so the category is more promising than proven.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
