What they liked

  • Jelly texture holds cold longer than cotton masks
  • Serum stays on mask without dripping
  • Leaves skin plump and hydrated

What they flagged

  • Single-use masks feel wasteful

What the gurus are saying

The jelly texture holds cold temperature far longer than typical cotton masks, making it especially soothing when chilled. The fit is snug and tailored to the face. One caveat: sheet masks are single-use and generate waste, which some find hard to justify despite the pleasant experience.

"The same goes for the Abib collagen gel mask, the Jericho Rose jelly line. I don't use them a lot. I think they are quite wasteful because you use them once and then you throw them off, but these are two-part masks that fit my face very well, so I will use them up. I use them with my daughter, [...] so along with that, I am thankful. [...] They felt nice. My skin felt plump and hydrated afterwards, which is what sheet masks do."

"The collagen gel mask, the Sedum Jelly ones from Abib are so, so nice. I find that the kind of jelly texture of it holds on to the cold temperature so much longer than cotton, for example. Feel like with cotton, you put it on your skin, it kind of matches the temperature of your skin. And while this does come soaked in like a collagen serum. So great for moisturizing, helping support the skin barrier, keep us hydrated."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Source: DermNet

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.
