What the gurus are saying

Gurus split on this cleanser. Fans praise its gentle lather, effective makeup removal including mascara, and ability to cleanse without leaving skin dry or tight. Detractors find it overly drying and argue the $35-40 price point is steep for a rinse-off product. The core disagreement centers on whether it suits sensitive or compromised skin barriers.

"I find this cleanser to be a little drying on my skin, so not only is it expensive at $40 for a cleanser, but I personally just find that it doesn't work for my sensitive skin either. There's just a little bit of tightness, just a little bit of a squeaky clean feeling with this one. My philosophy is I really don't like to spend a ton on my cleansers, especially a product that you put onto your face but then you wash down the drain immediately. I'd rather invest my dollars into something that sits on my skin."

"This is the Youth to the People kale and green tea spinach cleanser. It lathers in the nicest gentlest way. It smells like fresh spinach when you take it out of the garden and cut it, this really lovely very earthy kind of smell in a good way, and I just happen to love this. It's about 35 and it lasts until forever. This is a beautiful product, it really does a very nice job of almost like a hybrid, it will take off makeup but it also leaves your skin feeling nice."

"Another cleanser I really love is one I've talked about before, it's from Youth to the People and it's their Superfood Cleanser. This contains a blend of kale, green tea, and spinach so it's loaded up with antioxidants and vitamins, and even though it's a gel cleanser it really doesn't strip my face of moisture. I feel like it does a really good job in terms of cleaning my makeup off, even kind of stubborn mascara. During the summer time we are wearing tons of sunscreen, we're sweating, so you really need a cleanser that is very effective at removing all of that from your face."
