What the gurus are saying

Deep, powerful cleansing that removes gunk, impurities, and sunscreen is what this cleanser does best, especially for really oily skin and blocked pores. It does this with gentle surfactants and green tea antioxidants, not harsh actives. Because it's quite strong, those with oily skin may want to limit use to once daily or a few times weekly rather than twice.

"I've always been a huge fan of the Youth To The People Kale and Green Tea Superfood Cleanser, [...] especially if you have oily skin, blocked pores, or a lot of gunk that builds up on your face throughout the day. That cleanser is freaking incredible for being able to bulldoze through everything on your face and deeply clean. I will say it is a little intense, which is why I don't use it twice a day. It's a really powerful cleanser, but an amazing cleanser nonetheless, and literally the only cleanser I would spend over thirty five dollars for. [...] It's gotten pricey, but it's so good. I absolutely love that formula."

The Ultimate Q&A for Oily Skin - Your Questions ANSWERED
"If you have really oily skin where cleansers just aren't doing the job, I always recommend the Youth To The People Kale + Green Tea Cleanser. There's a reason why I recommend it so much and it has a cult following. It's really good if you just need that ultra deep cleansing experience. I love that one and use it all the time."
The BEST Cleansers of 2022!
"This has always been one of my absolute favorite cleansers for really deeply cleansing the skin, getting all the gunk out of your pores, and leaving your skin super clean afterwards. It has gentle surfactants as well as good antioxidant ingredients. But I will say, over time, I haven't used this as much as I used to, because I used to work as a server and sweat all day so I needed something really strong, and now I prefer more gentle cleansers on the regular. I'll still use this at least once a week, but it's not my daily go-to like it used to be. This cleanser is absolutely incredible, and I highly recommend it for anyone who struggles with really oily skin."
The BEST Cleansers of 2021!
"The Youth to the People Kale and Green Tea Superfood Cleanser, I have always been in love with this one. They recently reformulated it and I was scared they'd change the magical formula, but this one is a slight tad more nourishing than the previous formula, it just takes a little more time to froth up, and I'm still overall really impressed with it. I like using this one when my skin has really gone through it, like after a hike with mud and sweat, or a day at the beach with layers of sunscreen, it's great for really getting everything out of your skin. It has ingredients like green tea. I'm not able to use this both morning and night because it's a little too strong, so if you want an ultra gentle cleansing experience some of the other cleansers are better for that."
Why Your Cleanser is NOT Working
"I have always loved the Youth to the People Kale and Green Tea Cleanser. This has been a recommendation for so long on my channel, just because I love how well it does to remove all the dirt and impurities from your skin. This one does a really good job of removing sunscreen as well, and I tend to find that it works for me at night time. It's a little bit too strong for me to use twice a day because of how powerful it is, but if you're someone who has really really oily skin, I highly recommend this one."

"For acne prone skin, I love this one. It's super gentle on the skin, it has green tea and spinach vitamins, and it literally smells amazing, especially in the morning. I love using this in the morning, it's very soothing. It doesn't have harsh surfactants in it, it has very, very gentle surfactants."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
