What the gurus are saying

The gurus who reviewed it praise Weleda Skin Food as an effective, affordable moisturizer for dry skin and compromised barriers, with one noting it helped her elbows and knuckles stay hydrated over weeks of use. The formula contains sunflower and sweet almond oils plus beeswax, which experts say is excellent for barrier repair, though the presence of alcohol to dissolve those oils means those with very sensitive or acne-prone skin may want to skip it or patch-test first. One expert notes the essential oils can feel strong to some people, and another suggests there are better picks for postmenopausal or very parched skin, but several keep it on hand year-round, especially in winter or under makeup.

"I love the Weleda Skin Food and it's so creamy and rich so you really only need a tiny bit in the areas where I feel like I get a little bit more dry under my makeup and for me that's around the nose that's under the eyes my eyes are really sensitive especially when I sleep they tear up and they get irritated so I feel like this actually really helps me a lot I like this."

"I love Weleda skin food right so using Weleda products and just like really non-brand organic face washes, yeah just make sure that my face is washed, make sure it's exfoliated in some way and then just putting that Weleda on like I am always I around with me all the time and I find that you know as long as your skin's properly moisturized, so if you've got that as a base."

"It's the savior for dry skin on faces, elbows, hands. When I was using it for a good couple of weeks, I noticed that my elbows and knuckles, which normally get a lot drier, were a lot more moisturized and the skin barrier was a lot better. It's got a thick base of pure plant oils and beeswax, and beeswax is fantastic for an impaired skin barrier. In terms of the ingredients, it's a water-based formulation with sunflower seed oil, which is great, sweet almond oil, which is one of my favorites, as well as the beeswax. Unfortunately, to dissolve all of these ingredients, they've included alcohol in here, and for individuals with a lot of sensitivity, putting such a thick cream on like this it may irritate it. So if you've got acne-prone skin or you've got very sensitive skin, I probably wouldn't use this. You've also got glycerin, some natural essential oils like linden oil and lemon as well as geranium oil, which give that characteristic lemony, citrusy fragrance. Calendula officinalis flower extract is fantastic too, and there's some rosemary leaf extract as well, so great plant-based extracts."

"Weleda Skin Food is one I would use in the winter. It's great, but if you're really dry in a very dry climate or if you have lost moisture in your skin because you're postmenopausal or in the postpartum phase where your hormones are dropping, or you're even going through chemo, or if you have an inflamed skin barrier in addition to discoloration and you're just red and parched and cracked, there are better options."

"Weleda Skin Food is the occlusive of choice that I use. It does sometimes get a little nauseating because of all the essential oils in it, but I use it every morning. I also sometimes put it all over my face under my eyes or if it's really dry as the last step of my routine. It's $20 a box and it's easy."

"This is the Weleda Skin Food and Weleda is a UK-based brand that's literally drugstore both in the UK and here. The Skin Food has some really great ingredients. This is the $15 moisturizer from the drugstore that Gwyneth Paltrow has openly stated that she uses multiple times. It's got things like sunflower seed oil. This is a thicker formula so this is better for dry skin. I personally won't be buying it because it does have both fragrance and Beeswax, but this is honestly quite comparable and quite good."
