  • Reedle Shots can irritate sensitive skin and eyes

What the gurus are saying

This garlic spot treatment flattens pimples overnight or brings them to a head faster, even winning over someone who has rejected every other Reedle Shot product she has tried. The standout surprise: it does not irritate the way the rest of the category typically does for sensitive skin, making it wearable even at night without discomfort or eye irritation. Worth testing on problem spots if you have been burned by other Reedle Shots before.

"It shrunk the pimple. It didn't pop it. It didn't bring it to a head. It actually made it go down. The other thing I noticed is that it didn't actually dry out the area. I think a lot of spot treatments really rely on drying out the pimple from the outside in, right, topically. And so that area of skin just gets really rough and really peely and really damaged. Honestly, I'm not mad at this product. I'm kind of like grateful to this product. It works. It works really, really well."

"Every single pimple I put these on, it either flattened it out the next day or it brought it to a head so that I could get that process going a lot faster with the pimples. So, I was like, 'Oh, these actually work really good.'"

"My skin leans sensitive, so I feel those products all day, I can't sleep if I apply one at night, it's even gotten into my eyes, so the whole Reedle Shot category is a big miss for me. But I like this one, I like it as a silly little spot treatment, and [...] much to my surprise I do really like this."

Garlic Skincare & Yesstyle's Mystery Box? NEW K-Beauty 6/25
"This is from VT Cosmetics' garlic collection, saying it has garlic exosome with patented spicules, 1,266 times smaller than a pore. I don't feel it. I do not like the sensation of most of the RLE products, but I feel like I'm not feeling this product, how bizarre."

"This is a Garlic Reedle Shot. I am very blemish prone, particularly in the warmer weather. I find that I get more breakouts in warm weather. It's been very hot here in the UK, so I have been using this. It genuinely works. You use this as your evening moisturizer. When you wake up in the morning, your zits will be like half the size. It takes away redness. It takes away inflammation. This is a holy grail, like a superstar."

"This has the Reedle shot so it's got the spicules, it's supposed to be good for blemishes and acne. It's got some great ingredients in here: turmeric is great for it, it's got niacinamide, it's got asiatic acid, you've got lots of different centella. It's the equivalent of a 50 on the Reedle shot so it's not too prickly or spicy. You've got some nice niacinamide which is nice in 5% strength, I love that."

"The Garlic AC Real Shot Spot cream is this really fast acting blemish treatment that's like way more elegant than you'd expect from a garlic based product. It doesn't smell like garlic, but it combines garlic exosomes, tea tree, and centella, so it's antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and soothing at the same time, targeting spots without drying out your skin."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
