What the gurus are saying

Viviscal's proprietary amino acid and marine collagen blend earns praise from dermatologists for backed-up results: it has passed double-blinded randomized clinical trials showing real improvement in hair growth, nail strength, and skin hydration, especially for postpartum shedding and androgenic hair loss. The streamlined ingredient list makes it a smart choice for anyone already taking other supplements. One thing to flag: biotin in Viviscal can interfere with cardiac and thyroid lab tests, so mention it to your doctor if you're having those done. Give it at least three months daily, paired with good protein, sleep, and scalp care.

"Standard Viviscal is a solid budget-friendly option. If you want results, pick one approach, use it daily, give it at least 3 months. You want to support it with adequate protein, sleep, and scalp care and health."

Dermatologist Gets Real About Hair Loss | Do Supplements Actually Work?
"Viviscal is another popular Hair Growth Supplement that also contains hydrolyzed marine collagen. While Viviscal does contain this lovely amino acid blend, it does have fewer ingredients than Nutrafol, which can make it more suitable for somebody who's already taking a bunch of other vitamins and minerals or adaptogens and they may not need all of that. For people who want to play it safe, Viviscal may be just a better option for them."

"Hair, skin, and nails vitamins like Viviscal are some of the most common supplements marketed to you on Facebook and Instagram. I think there's a role for these to make sure your body isn't deficient in any of the essential vitamins or minerals that are important for growing hair. However, they tend to be quite expensive."

"There are a few vitamin supplements that I recommend to my patients if they ask me for recommendations that can potentially support their hair regrowth journey and that's Neutrofol and Viviscal. And both of those do contain biotin but it's not the biotin that's actually helping. It's their proprietary blend of active ingredients that is supporting that hair regrowth."

Dermatologist Compares Nutrafol & Viviscal
"Viviscal does have a few double-blinded randomized control studies demonstrating efficacy especially for androgenic hair loss. Interestingly, what they noted when studying their hair loss was that individuals taking Viviscal had a noticeable improvement in the overall health and strength of their nails as well as fuller eyebrows and improvement in skin hydration. One thing to be careful of is that Viviscal does contain biotin, and so if you end up taking Viviscal for hair thinning you want to notify your providers if you ever undergo testing, specifically like cardiac and thyroid testing, because it can interfere with those labs. Viviscal comes in a separate formulation, one for men and one for women. Viviscal is roughly about forty dollars a month."

"Viviscal uses an amino Amar complex which does not have this Sal petto in it, which makes it a much safer option. It passed my three tiered checklist for what I want out of a supplement. Neutral has more studies in general than Viviscal, but in this particular subset of people in the postpartum period, Viviscal because of the ingredient profile comes out as the winner."

"With the supplements I started investigating individual supplements and then from there went looking into complete formulations and then from formulations I went to products there were two products that really stood out that were pretty evidence-based to me that I feel like did everything you could ask for from using evidence-based ingredients to using good formulations to doing their own clinical studies to prove that they worked and that was Viviscal."

"If you want to throw in some supplements like Viviscal, I'm okay with that too. The more things you can combine, the better results."

"Unless you are deficient in something, which is rare, honestly they're unlikely to actually do anything. The studies on these things like Viviscal, they have limitations, the endpoints that they're measuring are not very consistent. It's got biotin, and there's no evidence that biotin is helpful for hair growth in the absence of biotin deficiency, which is super rare. But the problem with taking such high amounts of biotin is that it interferes with blood tests that you might get at your doctor's office to rule out a thyroid problem or to rule out that you're having a heart attack."

"Something I like about Viviscal and the reason I tend to recommend that brand to my patients is because they have done clinical testing to show that their supplementation is actually effective for hair growth. So it's not just theoretical, but the people who have taken these supplements have actually seen benefits in their hair."

"It's another Hair Growth Supplement that sort of competes in that space and it's a little bit of a different composition. It's two pills a day instead of four pills a day. It's a little bit cheaper. It also has some internal studies to show that it helps with hair growth. And again, I've had patients who have loved Viviscal and I have patients who felt like it was not helpful for them. But I don't think that is a total waste to try in terms of what else is available in the supplement space."

"If you are going to go the supplement route, pick a supplement that has been vetted and has gone through clinical trials. The two hair growth supplements that I recommend the most in my practice are Nutrifol and Viviscal. To my knowledge, these two supplements have not been compared head-to-head, but they both have clinical trials showing successful hair growth when taking them for six months or more."
Dermatologist's Tips to Achieve Healthy, Full Hair at Home! (DOs & DON'Ts) | Dr. Sam Ellis
"The two supplements that I tend to recommend in my practice if someone is interested in adding that to their hair care or hair growth routine are Viviscal and Nutrafol. The reason I recommend these two brands is because they have both conducted a significant number of clinical trials to demonstrate the efficacy of their product. If someone has been supplementing for more than six months with one of these products and they haven't seen improvement, I think it's fair to say that it's not working for them and they can stop. But if it's something that you've wanted to try, I think it may be worthwhile."
