What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently report visible benefits for hair, skin, nails, and joint recovery, with praise for unflavored powder's versatility and mixability. The major complaint is price; several reviewers note significant increases over time, pushing some to abandon the brand unless discounted. A few cite sourcing concerns, and one experienced acne, but most who stick with it feel the results justify use. The split hinges on whether perceived benefits outweigh cost.

"This one's specifically for hair, skin, and nails. It's got a little bit of protein in it, vitamin C, which is very important, collagen peptides, bioactive collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid, and cantaloupe. It's unflavored. You don't want to drink it with plain water because it kind of tastes bad. But if you mix it in with something else, you won't notice it. This is my repurchase of it."

"Vital Proteins has done very well. They have a powder which I will link to below and then this is their collagen gummies they taste like grape they're wonderful they taste good you have to eat I think four of them and they've got collagen peptides from bovine. If you're vegan probably don't want the bovine collagen peptides but there's other options. It does have some sugar calories in it because it actually tastes really good. These have tested well with the consumer lab. There's also an unflavored collagen powder tested well. Actually most of the products from this brand have tested quite well."

"I really dismissed these as not being super effective but now I've read it and heard it in two different places where these may actually be more effective than we realize. I got this one in a beauty box and you can tell I was really excited about it because it's still all there. I just I can't get past the taste. This study mentions it and I think it adds in some of these sources of proteins and rice. My brain is still very skeptical of them especially with the rapid pace of all these different brands releasing them. But this article mentions that they may be beneficial and I also heard Dr. Doris Day is a prominent dermatologist and she was interviewing someone on her show about them. Some people do notice benefits from this. It's got other vitamins in here so it's definitely not going to hurt you but with the price of some of these, I don't know."

"I was really consistent with Vital Proteins before, but since the prices basically skyrocketed, I don't use that brand anymore unless it's on major sale, then I might treat myself."

"I do like the Vital Proteins collagen peptides, but it just keeps going up in price. I go through this pretty much once a month and it's only 28 servings, so it just becomes really costly. The last time I checked it was around $75 or something like that, and I thought I remember when that used to be like $50. It has the additional amino acids, it's unflavored, it's grass-fed, it's bovine, and I take one scoop every morning in my coffee. It's a great way to add collagen into your everyday diet, great for skin, hair, and nails, and you can put this in a smoothie, a tea, water, you can put this in anything really and it's lovely. I really do like this."

My Favorite Beauty & Health Supplements! Vital Proteins, Ritual, Cymbiotika, & More | Susan Yara
"My favorite is truly just the regular collagen peptides that don't have any flavor. It's just so easy to use. I almost put it in everything if it's something blended. It's a guarantee that I'm going to put my collagen peptides in it because I see benefits from it and I enjoy using it. Because it's unflavored it doesn't mess with the flavor profile of whatever it is I'm making, whether it's a smoothie or oatmeal or anything. I put it in almost anything that it can be in and it's so easy to use. I get my vitamin C intake, some hyaluronic acid that taken orally has been shown to help with skin hydration. I can definitely see a difference and more importantly I love collagen peptides. I know that there are a lack of studies out there that show they can really do a lot, but I think more studies are starting to happen. When you just talk to people who use collagen peptides, myself included, we see a difference. We see a difference in our hair, we see a difference in our skin, we see a difference in our nails. I take my collagen peptides at least a few times a week and my nails are so strong."

"I actually really like Vital Proteins. I love collagen. I love that there's more studies coming out that show that it does actually help to improve your skin. The interesting thing is that hydrolyzed collagen, when you drink it, it kind of acts as a messenger molecule. It's not going straight to your skin and replacing it, but it's triggering potentially the synthesis of more collagen. I take the Vital Proteins collagen powder too, and what I've noticed is I have issues with my shoulder and cartilage, and that's actually why I started taking it. I was constantly sore from working out, and I noticed the difference with the collagen powder. I don't know about this specific peptide they're using enough to where I think it could be helpful."

"There's been some really nice systematic reviews that have consistently shown that collagen does benefit your skin health. For me it's kind of like two birds one stone, I'm getting the protein that I would want to get in my diet but struggle to get through regular food sources plus this added collagen boost. I tend to reach for the one by Vital Proteins just because you can get it in quite a large container, it's quite affordable, and it's quite easily accessible online as well as at large retailers like Target and Costco. I tend to blend it into a smoothie."

Can Oral Collagen Supplements Improve Your Skin, Hair, & Nails? Dermatologist Explains!
"I've recently been trying out the Vital Proteins collagen, which has both bovine and marine collagen, and I've really been enjoying it. I think the biggest thing that surprised me is how well it kind of just mixes into coffee or water and essentially just disappears. That's very different than any of the other protein supplements I've ever tried."

"The Vital Proteins collagen, the main supplier of this is sourcing from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, so I would probably not go with that. I would also look for hydrolyzed collagen for better absorption and better digestion."
