What the gurus are saying

This frosted, icy sorbet stands out for its cooling sensation and oil-absorbing power, which experts praise for leaving oily skin matte without peeling. However, reviewers split on whether the denatured alcohol mattifying approach is truly ideal for very oily skin, with concerns it might trigger rebound oil production; those with sensitive, very oily skin might do better with a lighter fluid moisturizer.

"One of my favorites here is the Vichy Mattify Sorbet. The brand never puts any ad spin behind it, I've complained to them in person and on social media, but it still just needs more love. It has incredible aesthetics, incredible visual, incredible feel, and it helps absorb oil."

"This product needs so much more love than it gets. The name is so perfect. It's like frosted and when you open this thing, it's like it literally looks like just this perfect smooth and icy blend and it decreases the skin temperature even for minutes after applying it and it absorbs oil. I just love the aesthetics. I love the packaging. Love the way it feels on the skin. And if you have oily skin, you might love this, too."

"This is for oily skin, so it's a mattifying moisturizer. It is frosted, the glass is frosted, the product is frosted and flat like it's a matte flat frost, which is wild. It has ingredients to absorb oil, it feels nice on the skin, and they even did studies showing that it helps cool the skin with an after application. So it's an extremely aesthetic product that lowers the temperature of the skin. This one is truly a standout product."

"This is my favorite. I don't think there's been a product I've been so excited about this. Vichy Mineral 89 Matte Sorbet, 48 hours of hydration, no fragrance. It's matte, like if you picture a matte wrap or matte paint, but it's white like frost on a window pane. Aesthetically it's wildly good, the way it feels with oily skin is amazing, the way it sets is incredible. I don't think this one is going to have the peeling problems that we do hear about occasionally with other matte moisturizers. This is super hydrating, super comfortable, and it just sits so well with oily skin, controls oil."

"This one is supposed to be a mattifying moisturizer. And I go down and look at the ingredients, and for the mattifying purposes of it, the main ingredients are denatured alcohol and silica, as well as some mineral salt. I just think for super oily skin, I don't think denatured alcohol is the best way to go. In fact, sometimes I think for some people it can be over-drying, and then your skin may freak out and then produce more oil. If you've got very oily skin, I think going a little bit easier, finding a good one type one step moisturizer, like a fluid moisturizer, that might be enough for your serum, toner, and moisturizer. But I don't necessarily think going with a lot of denatured alcohol is always the way for that. Maybe for some people it might be okay, but for a lot of people, I think it might not be the greatest way to go."
