What the gurus are saying

Gurus view trifarotene as a promising retinoid with a safety advantage over older options. It delivers retinoid benefits like improved skin texture, reduced hyperpigmentation, and collagen support while being gentler and better tolerated because the body can more easily inactivate it. The formulation is thoughtfully designed with a polymer for even distribution and allantoin to minimize irritation, making it suitable for larger body areas like the chest and back.

"There's trifarotene, which is a newer retinoid. Retinoids can help with fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen, can increase cell turnover and help with dark spots and hyperpigmentation, especially for patients who are skin of color who deal with hyperpigmentation, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Retinoids can help as long as we're not irritating the skin. If you irritate the skin and cause redness, that can leave a brown spot."

"Trifarotene is designed to be safer. Those orange bits there make it easier for your liver to inactivate it if it gets into your blood, and it's actually so safe that it's been specifically approved for truncal acne, so like your chest and back. Because it's safer, you can apply more of it on a larger surface area compared to if it was just approved for your face. It is a lot more potent, which is why it's at such a low concentration. The formulation has a polymer in it that spreads out the active more evenly, and it's also got allantoin which is soothing."
