What they liked

  • Blends out seamlessly, barely visible on skin
  • Evens tone and adds subtle radiance
  • No need to set after application

What they flagged

  • High alcohol content, irritating for sensitive skin
  • Strong fragrance that lingers all day
  • SPF 30 too low to use as sole sunscreen

What the gurus are saying

This essence blends nearly invisibly and gently evens skin tone with a luminous finish that needs no setting, making it effortless to wear. However, experts split on wearability: those with sensitive skin may find the high alcohol content and lingering fragrance too irritating for daily use, while others praise how light and natural it looks despite its tinted coverage.

"As far as the tone up essence, I just looked it up, the fourth ingredient is alcohol denat, and for me, my skin is quite sensitive. I think using this on a regular basis will just be too irritating for my skin. On top of the fact that it contains fragrance, and the fragrance isn't dissipating the way I would have hoped, I feel like I could probably smell this fragrance all day long, and that's just not my preference."

"But I gave it a go, [...] and I love it. It looks like it would be a foundation but they say it's a makeup base, and it ends up blending out to not look like much on your skin at all. It [...] just slightly evens out your skin tone and adds a little bit of radiance, and you don't need to set it again. [...] It's so easy to wear."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
