What the gurus are saying

This foundation holds up remarkably well on skin and resists transfer, a feature backed by clinical testing and especially useful if you wear masks. Gurus praise its full coverage paired with a natural, skin-like finish and lightweight texture that doesn't require much product, though some found it settled into fine lines and texture by day's end, and the fragrance lingered noticeably for those sensitive to scent. Best suited to those with normal to combination skin who want lasting coverage without a heavy feel.

"The Tirtir red cushion is what tourists still ask me about most, but I never recommend it for dry mature skin because even though it's a cushion it feels too heavy and too cakey. I think that's why it's so popular in humid Japan, it's thick and heavy, and it doesn't feel that popular in Korea because it feels too old fashioned and makes for too heavy, thick makeup."

Best & Worst Korean Cushions (Save Your Money)
"If you live in a tropical country and you are oily or combo skin, this is the most long lasting out of all eight cushions I tried, it just stays so well. But for me, dry mature skin with fine lines and wrinkles, it is too heavy, it has more powder in it than other cushion foundations, and around my eye area it is a disaster, too many lines show up and it feels too cakey. Even though I applied a tiny amount, the formula itself has a lot of powder in it, so for dry mature skin, stay out of it, it is not for me."
The Best (and Worst) Viral Korean Cushions to buy right now | K-Beauty Honest Review
"This cushion has very clear pros and cons. It's a super high coverage cushion, almost like a concealer inside, and it's too heavy and too matte for my thin, dry skin, it made my pores and wrinkles more visible and got cakey and flaky by the afternoon. They say it's for all skin types but that's not true, it's really only for oily or combo skin. The longevity is insane though, six hours in with zero touch ups and just a little fading around the nose. If you need all day wear and high coverage and you're oily or combo skin with lots to hide, this is for you, but if you have thin skin with nothing major to cover, you can skip it. It has the most shade variety of any cushion I tried, so if you have a darker complexion it's a great one to start with, but go at least one or two shades lighter than your usual Korean cushion because it runs deeper and warmer than you'd expect."
TOP 10 Korean Skincare Brands | Global #1 VS Korea #1 - WHICH IS BETTER?
"So many of my global guests ask me where to buy this cushion because they saw it on TikTok, but I can't even find it in stores here because nobody uses it, the biggest beauty and health store doesn't even carry it, which tells you people aren't interested. It's the number one cushion in Japan, where summers are hot and sweaty, so people need something long lasting and matte, and this cushion is exactly that, super long lasting with very good cover. But Korean makeup has moved toward looking more natural, so what's the point. If you're a beginner and you apply this one randomly, you'll look like Kabuki makeup. If you have thin, mature, dry skin it's too heavy, they call it a cushion foundation but inside it's literally concealer, so you're putting concealer all over your face. The shades also seem targeted outside Korea, they run dark and orange, some reviews say you need to go two or three shades brighter. It feels like a cushion from ten years ago, heavy and thick with good cover, if that's what you want, go ahead, but for a no makeup makeup look on normal skin, not really, I've never used this one on myself. It also only comes in a huge size, so if you want to test it, try to find a mini."

viral Korean Cushion Foundation HONEST Review | TIRTIR, Jung Saem Mool, Clio, etc
"It's so popular because it's long lasting and has great coverage, amazing for oily and combo skin in summer, and great for people with blemishes and hyperpigmentation, you don't even need a concealer when you apply it. But it has crazy coverage so you have to control the amount carefully or your face looks two dimensional, and I don't recommend it to people who don't have much to hide, it feels stuffy like I've applied concealer all over my face."
~Yay
"It contains red propolis, which is a honey bee-derived product, and xanthin hibiscus extract that helps to nourish and maintain the skin barrier with great antioxidants to support the skin along with other plant-derived ingredients that promote hydration and help improve your complexion. If you're looking for a great foundation cushion to use on a daily basis or for important events, I think this is a great one for a natural finish that still offers really decent coverage that lasts all day."

"These things seem shady and just kind of gross to me. Uh especially when people that are watching don't know what's really going on."
~Nay
"By the end of the day it was still too worn off, too settled in my wrinkles, and accentuating way too much texture everywhere on my face for me to ever wear it again or even like it. I just couldn't wait to take it off by the end of the day. It was slightly better on day two because of the sunscreen, but other than that it was still kind of a disaster for me. All in all, the Tirtir Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation for me sadly was just a fail."

"I'm not going to recommend the Tirtir Mask Fit Red Cushion because number one it is full coverage, so if you're into minimal coverage this isn't going to be for you. [...] The reason that I personally can't recommend it is the fragrance, it's not dissipating the way I would have hoped and I feel like I could smell this fragrance all day long and that's just not my preference. [...] If you're okay with fragrance and you don't mind full coverage, then the Tirtir Mask Fit Red Cushion would be right up your alley if you're into full coverage makeup."
~Mixed
"This is the cushion that's gone viral, and I'm so happy to see it finally has a full shade range, not just a couple more shades, which matters a lot since this one is a true foundation. It's very similar to the other cushion, just a little less coverage and a little less drying, sitting in a thin layer on the skin. You may have heard that this one oxidizes, and for most of the month I didn't notice it on me at all, but in my last clip it turned into a mustardy color really fast, though I don't actually think that was oxidation, I think it was a reaction to an oil balm I'd applied underneath. Frankly, the red cushion ended up not being my absolute favorite, I liked the division of the other two cushions more. If you've never tried it, get the one dollar sampler first to find your shade rather than the full size, since this is a foundation and not as flexible on shade as the others."

"This is Tirtir's reformulated red cushion foundation, shade 22N, though I'm actually a 23. They changed the formula because people were finding it oxidized on their skin, though I never personally had that issue. I'm not noticing too much of a difference in the coverage, but one thing I am noticing is you have the opportunity to build it up a little bit more, it goes on a little more relaxed while still giving coverage, so you don't have to be as wary of using too much. The texture doesn't look different, doesn't smell different, still smells like Tirtir. I personally don't see too much difference in the formula right now, but it does feel a little bit more lightweight, it doesn't go on as heavy as fast, and it's still moving with my skin really nicely. To me it just looks and feels like Tirtir does, so there's no worry the formula has changed too drastically that you won't like this foundation anymore. But if you've been a little concerned, give it a few months to make sure you're getting the new formula."

Trying new makeup .. what’s good and what’s bad???
"I'm wearing the Tirtir Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation. It has a glow to it, but it's not greasy or claggy feeling on the skin. It smells good too. It kind of has color but also kind of doesn't at the same time. It's like a very subtle tint. Very nice and hydrating looking. But it's very glowy. Really beautiful. It's not overly pigmented either, which I really, really like. It's very serum-esque almost."

"So apparently this person is like showing off the lightest and darkest shade of a TIRTIR cushion foundation, who have a great shade range. To do so, as I have done in the past, you do not need to cover your whole face in the darkest shade."

"I love these. [...] I think they're incredible. I think they're doing an incredible job. And I just love the actual foundations themselves. [...] If you want something that's balanced, that has a good coverage, that you don't need to use too much of, but still get that coverage, the Tirtir cushions are the ones to go for."
Every TIRTIR Foundation Tested!! | Coverage, Finish & Who It’s For
"This is TIRTIR's most viral product. This is the one that kind of boosted them into the worldwide market. It is a breathable, natural finish with a full coverage that still looks like skin. So this is your everyday full coverage, still looking like skin. It has a semi matte finish, so it's not completely matte, it's not completely glowy. It's actually what I'm wearing right now. So semi matte, medium to full coverage for normal, combination and slightly dry skin. I actually do like this on oilier skins. I'm oily and I love this. I use it a lot, because I like being glowy, but I do just powder it and it's absolutely fine."
NEW TirTir Foundation! A GAME CHANGER for Oily Skin??? | Mask fit Red Foundation and concealer
"I haven't seen anyone yet say it's oxidizing on the skin. But it's just the smoothest. The way it sits, it's almost like quite satiny already. On oilier skin, my skin, I have found on my cheeks it sits, and it sits really well. My skin is oily, and this has been sitting beautifully. I wore it on my cheeks and then I wore the cushion on my nose and my forehead, and it sat so well. The combination of the two was stunning. I just love the way it feels doing that on the skin, pushing it in. So if you do like to go a little bit darker, if you're similar to me, you can go for the 23N Sand. This one is borderline a little bit too light for me, but when it is actually blended into my skin and pushed into my skin, it sits really, really well. It just neutralizes the redness and everything looks great."
I FORGOT I HAD THESE! | Trying new makeup!
"For my foundation, I am going to use a Tirtir cushion. However, I have been loving the glow I've been getting from another cushion foundation, but I love the coverage of this one."

Tirtir have been making waves and making the correct moves in extending their shade ranges. The Mask Fit Red Cushion is your satin finish foundation."

"This foundation is pretty pigmented. It has pretty high coverage and it dries to give a satin sort of finish. The application isn't as easy as some others. It has a standard sponge with the big holes as the dispenser, so you do have to work it on a bit to get rid of the dots. The standout thing for me with this product, aside from the fact that they actually have a shade range, is how well it stays on skin and doesn't transfer very much. That 'mask fit' part is actually because they designed it to not smudge as much when you're wearing a mask. And they did clinical testing to substantiate this, which I think is just really cool."

"The classic mask fit red cushion is more of a satin formula it provides like a really beautiful amount of coverage and I would say that this is probably the most universal in texture if you're someone like me who tends to be like I would say normal to combination sometimes I have dryness sometimes I have a little bit of oiliness this is one of my favorite formulas because it really adapts to like whatever my skin is going through at the time"

"They have 30 shades which is pretty incredible. I believe they're the first Korean brand to ever have a foundation that has such an extensive shade range, which is amazing. I instantly fell in love with it the first time I used it. It's a cushion foundation that comes with a little pad, which is super helpful when you are applying over SPF because you're not using moisture. My shade is 17W French Vanilla, and if you're close to my shade range, I would say that it's a perfect match. A little bit goes a long way. It's very, very lightweight in texture. It almost feels cushiony despite being like this liquid, you know. It's incredibly lightweight but a little bit goes a really long way."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
