What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise The Outset Moisturizer for its luxurious feel despite simple, high-quality ingredients and clean formulation. The consensus is that it delivers genuine hydration without fragrance or unnecessary additives. The main divide is skin type suitability: reviewers note it skews toward dry and normal skin, making it less ideal for oily complexions, though the lightweight texture appeals to those seeking non-heavy hydration, especially in warmer months or for travel.

"The Outset seems to present itself as a brand that's very minimalist, focused on clean ingredients, very clean girl aesthetic, but with a luxurious vibe. Having held the products myself, they do live up to the standard. They feel like a luxurious, high quality product. Even though the packaging is pretty simple, it still feels luxurious. The restorative niacinamide night cream has some good simple basic moisturizing and conditioning agents like caprylic triglyceride, cetearyl alcohol. It has some intriguing oils like avocado oil, sunflower oil, and it's pretty much fragrance-free. There's no added fragrance, no essential oils or perfume. Looking at the formulas for this brand, I do think that they are pretty much in line with what is representative of a healthy, good quality skincare formula that is simplistic but still effective. There's not a lot of frills, no fragrance, nothing over the top, but still a good ingredient list."

"This has a long list: coconut oil, hops extract, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil. This is not going to be one for very oily skin types. I have a feeling this one's very much geared towards dry skin. It feels nice though. I could see this one being really nice for winter."

"It's a stick, so I'm a big fan of it for travel, anything I can take on the plane without having to think about. It's really light, very airy, like really nothing, and yet it's really hydrating. So if you're someone like in the summer who doesn't want something heavy, this is just a really nice light moisturizer, and it's really lovely for almost everyone."
