What the gurus are saying

Gurus recognize volufiline's mechanism (it can encourage fat cell growth in areas like hollow under-eyes) but the clinical evidence behind it is modest. One expert sees little harm in trying it given the low cost, though they'd suggest using it consistently for 6 to 9 months to judge results fairly; apply it mixed with or layered over moisturizer rather than to bare skin. Another tester found no noticeable benefit after a couple of months and cautions against claims of dramatic plumping in just days, which topical products rarely deliver. The ingredient remains divisive.

"The Ordinary just came out with a volufiline product which is essentially a molecule that has been shown to increase fat cell growth in the skin. So you can imagine if you have hollow under eyes or the fat pads under your eyes are sort of shrinking down, doing anything possible to sort of add fat or volume back to that area would be amazing. Now the clinical trials around volufiline are not super impressive, but it's a very affordable product. So I think there's very little harm in trying it and something like this I would probably think about using for at least 6 to 9 months before I really had a good understanding of whether or not it was benefiting me. This is a very concentrated serum, so you don't put it directly on dry skin. You can either mix it with your moisturizer or you can apply it on top of your moisturizer. And the way I would recommend using it if you're volufiline curious is to apply your normal eye cream and then put a little drop of volufiline right on top."

"I will say I've tested this. I personally didn't have any positive results. I didn't have any negative results either, but I didn't notice any effect after testing this for a couple of months in very small amounts around my mouth area. I didn't notice any benefits. Some people say they notice the most amazing benefits and so this was studied. So it's a controversial ingredient. It's a combination of hydrogenated polyisobutene and a plant extract founded by a French company called Seders. It's got a plant-based extract and it helps when you apply it with the formation of subcutaneous adipose tissue. Some people will say they used it around their mouth area and in a couple days their mouth area already looks much more plump, but I'm very wary of anything that says within a couple days you can get noticeable results, especially when with this product you would think you get noticeable results perhaps in a couple of months. Most topical products cannot give you dramatic results in two days."
