What the gurus are saying

Gurus split sharply on wearability. One camp finds it uncomfortably oily and sticky throughout the day, feeling heavy despite its thin liquid texture and comparing it to a glazed donut finish; they consider the $19 price too high for the discomfort. The other view praises its lightweight, serum-like texture and suitability for sunscreen avoiders. A middle take acknowledges the lightweight formula and non-irritating finish but notes it leans dewy. Consensus is strongest on no white cast and no pilling with makeup.

"I don't know how it is that The Ordinary managed to mess it up because they took a chemical sunscreen and somehow made it just as uncomfortable to wear as the mineral counterparts, this UV Filters SPF 45 serum, because this thing is so oily. Many mineral sunscreens feel more comfortable than this. It's so oily. It's like, did I just put cleansing balm all over my face? When you put it on, there's no white cast. Great. We expect that with a chemical sunscreen. But it feels heavy. It comes out a thin liquid fluid, but it feels heavy. Like it feels like I have a thin film of baby oil all over my face. And you look shiny. You look like a glazed donut."

My Honest Review Of The Ordinary Sunscreen
"It feels uncomfortable. It's still sticky. It's still gooey. It feels like I have a thin film of oil on my face. The formula does not cause any kind of burning, tingling sensation, which is great for me because sometimes I get that with certain American chemical sunscreens. While this remains uncomfortable to wear throughout the day, the feel of it on your face, for me at least, does not improve. It does not peel. You're not getting sunscreen balls coming up off of your face. Makeup goes on over this quite well."
My Honest Review Of The Ordinary Sunscreen
"This is a pass for me. I would not buy this. The Ordinary back in the day when it first came out was always known for being like super affordable. Mind you, times have changed and making a sunscreen is not a cheap endeavor for any brand. They've got to go through regulatory testing. I would not spend $19 on this. This was sent to me, but I would not buy it again."

"The Ordinary UV Filters SPF 45 Serum. It's a brand new launch for $19. It's pretty incredible. It is very lightweight. It is serum-like and it is fragrance free and it is great for the person who hates sunscreen."
Top Pick: sunscreen for sunscreen haters

"This is the new Ordinary UV Filters SPF 45 Serum, the new sunscreen from The Ordinary. It uses old style filters that are US approved. So if you're in the US, this is probably going to be the best over-the-counter sunscreen you're going to find. For the rest of the world that isn't the US, I think there's better options. It has a really lightweight texture to it. I don't mind this sunscreen, but I do find it's a little bit dewy for what I would actually want. It doesn't distort the skin, you don't get any ashiness or discoloration from it, which I like. It's quite calming and soothing, but I just feel it's a little bit on the dewy side."
