What the gurus are saying

Gurus praise this product for delivering salicylic acid's pore-clearing benefits without over-drying skin, making it a standout option for acne-prone people with dry or sensitive skin. The oil base is highlighted as effective at penetrating pores and, counterintuitively, nourishing rather than stripping. Reviewers consistently note the strong results at an affordable price point, with some reporting it outperforms pricier alternatives.

"I use the oil based one because actually salicylic acid is drawn to oils. It's how it gets into our pores in order to flush them out. And so actually having it in an oil based solution just makes sense. I use this massaged into the nose once or twice a week and it really helps to keep on top of any blackheads that I have. I definitely notice if I massage this for like two maybe 3 minutes into the area. That 3 minute massage will definitely help eradicate blackheads in a way that no other salicylic acid ever has. I've tried some of the expensive ones and other medicated ones, but not as well as this. This is the super inexpensive salicylic acid. And if you have very dryness prone skin, but still have blackheads and breakouts, this is your dream product because it doesn't dry the skin out like usual salicylic acids, it actually nourishes, but it still does all that you expect it to. So if you've tried a lot of other salicylic acids and been disappointed, give this a go."
Top Pick: salicylic acid for dry skin

"The BHA peeling solution is fantastic because it has that salicylic acid, but sometimes there are people who have dry skin and acne and that's really rough to treat because a lot of acne treatments including BHA can be a little bit more drying. Well, The Ordinary has an anhydrous salicylic acid, this is basically BHA in oil, and I'm so happy they launched this because this is so good. It has no water in it, so it's anhydrous. If you're someone who loves a good oil serum but you have acne and you're like 'I'm so dry, I love an oil and it breaks me out every time,' this is going to be a best friend. There is not a lot for dry skin and acne out there the way there is for oily skin and acne, so the fact that The Ordinary has this and at such a great price is amazing. This is a fan favorite, and as an aesthetician, it's something I always want to have so that I can adapt to those cases for people who do have some slightly unusual or different needs."

"The Ordinary has a really good salicylic acid and hydration solution. If you have acne you'll love that, however if you have sensitive skin and acne, the aloe and nag solution is so good."
